Q: what is natural dyeing?
A: an amazing process through which plants that naturally contain pigments (like this wild goldenrod) are carefully and sustainably gathered and then boiled to release those pigments, like a giant pot of tea 🍵. With the addition of some other natural materials, those pigments can be bound to natural fibers, like silk, to make gorgeous and sometimes unexpected colors (swipe to see how the armful of goldenrod I collected near my studio turned out!). It’s somewhere between an art and a science, which I think is why my sometimes creative and sometimes analytical brain enjoys it so much. 🌾
