This is an 1820s glass black button, xtreme detail for the upper class ladies, this is from the lost SC Hopkins family collection.
I inquired some goodies from this last year along with land documents, personal letters, land receipts, and a few other interesting documentations. Two very interesting things is a land document from 1780 and a South Carolina pre-Civil War button. 
This beautiful button is on a purpleish silver toned backdrop with a glass beaded necklace.
