How to Remove Oil Stains From Clothes
Mishaps happen, and that butter you just put on your knife plops onto your shirt, or you find motor oil has mysteriously appeared on your clothing. Whatever kind of oil or grease stain it is—automotive oil, car door grease, cooking oil, butter, or margarine—while difficult to eliminate, the good news is that it is possible to remove.

Before You Begin
Check the care label on the clothing to see if it is washable or dry clean only to determine your next steps.

Instructions
How to Remove Oil Stains From Washable Clothes
When any type of oily stain happens never rub or wipe it because that will push it deeper into the fibers of the fabric.

Remove the Oily Solid and Sprinkle Powder
Gently lift away any solid matter (like that blob of butter) with the edge of a dull knife or spoon as soon as possible.
Sprinkle on some cornstarch, baby powder, baking soda, or even use a piece of bread to absorb as much of the oil as possible. It usually takes about fifteen minutes for the powder to absorb the oil.
Brush the powder away from the stain with a soft-bristle brush.
These steps will make stain removal in the laundry room much easier.

Doing laundry by yourself, especially if you have a large family, can quickly become overwhelming during the holidays. Instead, assign family members to particular jobs in the laundry room. Consider delegating the following responsibilities:

Sorting clothes in proper piles
Moving clothes from the washer to the dryer
Taking clean clothes to another room to fold
This is also a great opportunity to teach children about how to care for their clothes. The more you teach now, the better prepared they’ll be when they have to handle their own laundry.

HOLIDAY PARTIES: LAUNDRY TIPS FOR HOLIDAY SPILLS AND SPLASHES
After the eighth holiday party, my daughter said to me, “Do I hang up my knit sweater and skirt outfit or should I fold it?” For once she wants my advice!

Tip: Keep knits in good shape by storing and cleaning them properly. Keep sweaters folded loosely with lots of room to breathe. If you must hang it up, fold it over a crossbar. Never hang like a shirt on a wire hanger – this will stretch it.

After the seventh holiday party, my cousin said to me, “My suede outfit got soaked in the rain.” How do I handle soaked suede?

Tip: Hang it out to dry. Do not use a blow dryer or heater. When dry, brush with a stiff brush.
