Reposting this with a few added slides. The journey is long, and sometimes feels like the definition of success will never reach its true potential. But when I look back on all that I’ve done in such a short period of time, while also raising tiny humans and juggling the mental load of it all? I know I am currently sitting in the success I once dreamed of.

It’s just always evolving.

For me, to continue doing what I love and to truly still love doing it, change is always occurring. Do I get tired? Yes. Do my friends tell me I just need to sit the f*ck down for once? Yep! But creating in any form is what keeps me moving.

Creating for me has looked very different on any given year. I’ve sewn pieces that I will always be proud of. I’ve painted artwork that hangs on walls in the homes of adoring customers and strangers. I’ve created a space for all to come and enjoy, get lost in, and to just be themselves in. I’ve created two beautiful humans, my greatest work! And it is all constantly evolving, even if it’s not something you can wear or hang on your wall, I’m still making.

Thanks for being here for the journey, my friends ❤️

Remembering the fallen on this Memorial Day, both veterans and civilians that have shed blood to defend the Nation, the marginalized communities, and the immigrants that make the US diverse and beautiful.

Enjoy this day ❤️

Gooood Morning my friends!! ☀️ Well, ITS THE BIG WEEKEND! The kick off to our season.

The village is buzzing with cars, there’s been new faces in the shop, and snow birds we haven’t seen in a minute are coming out of hibernation 🌸💖

The shop is fully stocked on all sides, but I spent some time restocking the poppyseeds children’s section yesterday and the summer clothes are too cute too handle!! We carry sizes 0-3 months through 18-24 months. Our bamboo pajamas go up to 3T ✨

My mice friends are busy in their Suitcasa, camping, doing ballet, ya know, typical rodent things.

The PlayDough kits are back in stock with some fun new ones for rainy or colder days!

As for the rest of the shop—you’ll just have to come see. Marine Layer’s summer collection is fully stocked, lil delights galore, and our home section is ready to refresh yours!

Have a great weekend!

My friends first reactions to my candle collaboration with ✨🍷😅

I custom blended 3 of the 8 scents, while the other five Evil Queen blended themselves. I designed the labels and did the artwork for them!

Which do you think your favorite scent will be, and which one has your favorite artwork? 🖼️

First glance at my candle collaboration with 🌈✨💖

These are available now at the shop, and online tomorrow!

Yes, the labels/text are a little small, but overall I’m happy with how my artwork translated to the labels!

Descriptions and a video from the friend jury soon 🥰✨

For some people, I think there is a common misconception that owning a retail shop is just a fun little hobby. Now, I’m not saying EVERYONE thinks that, but you’d be surprised over the years how many times I’ve heard “oh it must be so fun to just pick things out and display it!”

When I started Poppy Things at the age of 18, that is when it was “cute” at craft shows and art markets with my amateur set up and I was just happy to be able to buy more spoonflower fabric. Now? This is what feeds my family. This is what seven employees rely on for income. This is the only way I can make it in Leelanau County, where if I didn’t open the brick and mortar, there’s literally no way I could afford to live where I grew up and stay by my family.

Do I love it? Hell yeah, absolutely! But even seven years in, it still feels like a gamble sometimes. Spending money to make money. Growing and pivoting to avoid complacency. Keeping things fresh so people stay interested. Forming relationships with my customers, community members, and vendors, because it MATTERS.

Operating Poppy Things at the scale she has grown to definitely isn’t cheap. And if I’m being honest, these numbers and costs are still lower than what they actually are because there are more expenses than I could even list.

If you have supported my small business in any way over the years, even just by sharing our social media posts or mentioning it to a tourist—thank you!

So grateful to each and every one of you ❤️

Motherhood is one of the hardest things I’ve ever done. There, I said it.

But loving them? Loving them is the easiest thing I’ve ever done. It’s hard because of the pressure I place on myself to “get it right,” because I only get one chance to make sure they grow up feeling loved, heard, seen, supported—in every single way possible until my last breath.

I think of how lucky I am each morning that I have been able to create a life where I can always put them first over work (to a certain extent, I’m not talking about being closed all the time to play hooky.)

I think of my mom when I was growing up, my sister and her kids, all the other working moms I know that have to rush the precious and little time we have with our kids each and every day just to get to work on time, only to be without them all day and to rush through dinner and bath just to sleep and do it all over again everyday until the weekend.

Yes, I work Monday through Friday and yes, I do have to be at the shop the bulk of the day. But I find myself more mornings than not, easily convinced to just cuddle a little longer, go on the swings for “FIVE MINUTES MAMA”, go on our morning walks around the neighborhood, or take the long way to daycare so we can see the big lake. And the evenings? Especially in the summer, I admit I will do the quickest meal I can so that we can be outside for as long as possible before bed. Beach pizza? Yep, I’m that mom.

Even though motherhood isn’t a cakewalk, I find myself taking mental pictures each day so that I can soak them in, in every phase.

The warm snuggles with feathery hair that tickles my chin. The tiny bouquets. The moments they love each other instead of beating each other and hug or hold hands unprompted. The random kisses my almost 4 year old will run up and give me when least expected. The giggles in the bath. The little gallop running. All of it.

I’m so lucky I don’t have to rush as much as others, even though it still feels like a hamster wheel and my heart hurts when Leo says he doesn’t want to go, he just wants to be with mama and Jack today. 😭 Being their mom is the greatest joy of my life. Happy Mother’s Day ❤️
