Earlier this month Jerome received a scholarship for youth entrepreneurs from Matthews' Painting Company, LLC to help grow his new business- Pollinator Gardens by Jerome!

Jerome wishes more people knew how important leaves are to the ecosystem in their own backyards, so he said let’s share this!

If you can’t leave all the leaves, pick a section to move the leaves and, well, leave them. 😬

We carry our leaves to the gardens and use them to create mulch layers for over winter & for water retention. We also let them lie until blooms start appearing.

Our first pollinator garden started from a dead tree.

We bought our home, and the tree in the front yard was dead. After it was removed three years ago, and the stump turned to mulch, my mom said we should plant something happy there.

So we started small, with a few perennials and a bird bath, plus feeder.

Each year we add more flowers.

Here’s a little peek at how it’s going this year.

For several years now we’ve had an ever expanding pollinator garden, and this year J took over and has enjoyed learning about gardening, pollination and native plants, he’s decided to start offering a small number of pollinator gardens he sets up this fall.

Included in his fee:
🌼 Surveying your yard and helping select the best area.
🌼 Designing a simple starter pollinator with a select number of plants.
🌼 Installing the garden and giving tips on caring for the plants

This will be for Kosciusko county and select Elkhart areas for right now.
