Recorded with drummer Rashied Ali, *Interstellar Space* is one of John Coltrane’s most intense and uncompromising late-period recordings. Employing four extended duets, Coltrane abandons the traditional jazz rhythm section and harmonic structure, treating tenor saxophone and drums as equal, constantly interacting voices.

The record is an improvised journey into uncharted territory. Coltrane’s sheets of sound, multiphonics, repeated motifs, and increasingly abstract phrasing collide with Ali’s polyrhythmic approach. “Interstellar Space” stands as a crucial document of Coltrane’s final artistic evolution and a milestone in free jazz. It reflects his belief that improvisation could serve as both spiritual inquiry and musical exploration, influencing generations of avant-garde jazz musicians.

Yesterday I had the pleasure of of meeting several students and emerging professionals whose studies and work are focused on psychology and mental health. I always appreciate conversations with people who have chosen the important work of helping others navigate grief, trauma, healing, and hope. In a moment when so many are carrying unseen burdens, and navigating systems with growing precarity; I’m grateful for those who have answered the call to care and diligently work to destigmatize seeking mental health support.
