🥹🌻 Yesterday was such a special day.
I finally brought my completed mixed-media piece, Reclaimed Peace, home to where its story began: Mattice Beauty Supply Mattice Beauty Supply 💜
What started as a canvas I painted at a Paint & Sip years ago became something I eventually hid away because I didn't love how it turned out. But this year, I decided to give that piece ~ and myself ~ another chance.
I gave myself permission to play. To experiment. To sew cowrie shells onto a canvas. To add sunflowers, crystals, found objects, a tiny dinosaur 🦖🤭 and all the little details that helped this piece become what it was always waiting to become.
I was honestly nervous for the reveal. I didn't know if Davida and Patience would like it. So of course, I had to make the moment a little dramatic. 😂 I covered the piece, tied it up with yarn, and cut it open like a present before revealing Reclaimed Peace.
And seeing their reactions made me so happy. 🥹 The tiny dinosaur was one of the first things they noticed, and I was so excited to learn that sunflowers are one of Davida's favorite flowers. 🌻
This experience reminded me that sometimes creative growth means revisiting something you once gave up on and allowing it and yourself to become something new.
I'm so grateful that I got to stretch my artistic muscles and give something back to a community space that helped inspire the beginning of this journey.
So if you're in Tacoma, please go show some love and support to Mattice Beauty Supply. And while you're there, say a quick hello to Reclaimed Peace for me. 🥹💜🌻
Here's to giving ourselves permission to return, reimagine, reclaim, and create.
With Gratitude,
Monique 💜
