- Made for John, and this is as real as it gets. For those of you who aren’t familiar, Florida is where cattle ranching originated for the entire continent when Ponce de León first brought cattle to North America from Spain back in the 1521. Those first cattle were introduced about 100 miles south of our Ybor doorstep near modern-day Fort Myers, and their presence would go on to inspire perhaps the most quintessential & iconic of American subcultures.

So, when we are afforded the opportunity to contribute a modest li’l notch on the centuries-long belt of Florida cracker culture, there’s a particularly unique feeling of humility that accompanies our sense of privilege to join that history in our own small way.

This Gus-inspired, ranch-bound work hat features western weight 100X nutria in silverbelly, rolled sides, and a hand-braided leather band. And it’s hard to get more Florida than that.

- What does a Tamagotchi have in common with a baby? They both need at least slightly more care than a hat.

Seriously, don’t over think it. Just brush it sometimes.

- This story is insane. This hat belonged to Bryant John Roberts, Captain of the Tampa Police Department from 1953-1956. When his grandson brought this in for restoration, we could not believe the history in our hands. The original sweatband still brandished the logo for Adams City Hatters, pressed in gold foil and bearing their long-forgotten address on Tampa Street and the tagline “Hats for Dads & Lads”.

For those unfamiliar, Adams City Hatters was *thee* hat shop in Tampa from 1920 until its closure in 1996. Originally located in downtown, the business was sold outside of the Adams family in 1984 and moved to 7th Avenue in Ybor in 1991. That native lore is a major part of what made our opportunity to reintroduce the advent of a proper hat shop not just to Tampa - but specifically to Ybor City - that much more meaningful.

When this hat walked in our door, holding it was the Captain’s grandson and namesake: Bryant McClintick. His grandfather’s hat still carried the pressed initial “BJR” inside the deteriorating sweatband, a vague recollection of its former silhouette, and a tactile history it seemed could be felt with every pass of the brim.

This family heirloom epitomizes what we mean when we say a proper felt hat will last you ‘til death.

Decades of stories, patina, history, legacy. All passed down just the way any craftsman would have surely intended.

With a little care, cleaning, and technique, we bounced this felt back to life with restored shape, resized for the current heir, and an optimistic prognosis for decades more use.

Yet another testament to the integrity and value of quality. And a one-of-a-kind token of Tampa history.
