I started out as a teacher at LAUSD in an emergency credential program. They basically give you a job and 2/3 pay and you attend school and get credit for student teaching as you teach. I started out at Belmont HS and was the drama teacher, stagecraft and in charge of budgeting the auditorium. I also had a few English classes. Then they decided to bus 1800 kids out of Belmont, so as last hired first fired. Actually I went on to teach at 4 more schools in 6 years at LAUSD. Then I entered the private sector and openend a gift shop on Melrose Ave. I had the shop for 2 years and loved it but the economy wasn't helping me. I met my husband who's office was above my store. Twenty-six years later and he is still the love of my life. After that I went to graduate school and got my master's in Marriage and Family Counseling. I had our son Corey who is now 23 and graduated when he was a year old. I kept teaching at private schools at that point mostly part-time. I ended up at Westmark during a turbulent time for them but learned so much thanks Bina and Joanne. Joanne had a certificate on her wall from the Association of Educational Therapy. I had never heard of them. I contacted the organization and did an internship and became an educational therapist. I merged my love of teaching and counseling together. When I was first interviewed the person asked me what I would do with an autistic child and I said I didn't know, but I would learn. Little did I know that in the next few months our son would be diagnosed as having Asperger's Syndrome or being on the Autistic Spectrum. My calling was born. Learning what to do for our son helped me to learn what to do for other children.

In 1999 I decided it was time to start my own practice of educational therapy and worked hard to present a case study to become a BCET (Board Certified Educational Therapist).
My son is now 23 and recently graduated from CSUN cm laude with a degree in psychology. He is working a temporary job and looking into graduate programs. So now that my son was finished with school for the time being I thought it was finally time for me to get my license as an MFCC. So this year I applied and got my intern license and began an internship with FACT- an organization that helped us along the way when we needed to learn about autism. It was my turn to give back. I am now interning offering individual, family, and sessions for children with learning disabilities, autism and ADHD, or to anyone who is in need of my services. I am continuing my educational therapy practice and organizing a parent support group of special needs children. I am also a BID supervising behaviorists that work one on one at LAUSD. I've come full circle.
