This might be a little long, but I’d appreciate it if you’d take the time to read it anyway.
The Story Of Creatively Handmade Gifts
My name is Sharon, and I have loved making and creating things, working with my hands since I was a child. When I learned to crochet as a teen, starting a business or making things to sell was the furthest thing from my mind.
Several years later, I was attending a Missions Conference at our church. The speaker mentioned different ways to encourage and be a blessing to missionaries. I began to think about missionary wives. How often does someone do something just to help the wives know they are special? It doesn’t happen very often. I felt God leading me to do what I could to change that. So I began making crocheted dishcloths. I asked our Missions pastor to let me know whenever a missionary was coming to our church, so I could be prepared with a gift.
More often than not, he would forget to let me know, and I was frequently unprepared. I began to fill a basket with my new dishcloths and carried it to church every week. Often people asked if I was selling the dishcloths. Since I wanted the focus to be on missionary wives, I politely said, “No,” and explained the purpose.
Sometime later, I lost my full time job. Because people had asked if I would sell my handmade items, I decided to give it a try. I knew I could still make missionaries a priority. Thus began my small business. Over the years I learned to make other things and added them to my inventory. My page now has almost 2,000 followers.
It is amazing to me how God took an idea and expanded it in ways I never expected. The blessing I hoped to be for others, He has turned to bless me. I hope my Creatively Handmade Gifts are also a blessing to you!
