Having built product for a countless number of brands, we’ve learned what actually separates a great workwear label from a forgettable one. And almost none of it is styling.

It’s the fabric, the construction, the washes, the hardware, right down to how the piece is boxed. In real workwear, every one of those started as a solution to a problem, which is exactly what makes it worth getting right.

So here’s how we’d think it through.

Most fabric inspo shows you things you will never get near. This is the opposite.

Every fabric in here, the waxed cotton, the boiled wool, the thermochromic nylon, all of it, sits inside a supply chain we actually work in. These are not moodboard materials. They are things we can source and build with, right now.

That is the difference between admiring a fabric and being able to use one. Most people in this industry only ever get the first half.

cotton is not a spec on its own, it is a starting point. Poplin, denim, sateen, corduroy, jersey, all cotton, all built differently, all behaving nothing alike. The fibre is the easy part. The construction is the decision.

So the spec has to say which cotton, and in what build. The word alone leaves the most important choices still open.

Part 1 of a few. We pulled five cottons apart to show how far one fibre actually stretches.

Six outerwear pieces that caught our eye this week.

Notice that none of them are playing it safe. A translucent race shell, a cropped peacoat, corduroy cut like technical outerwear. Each one takes a familiar idea and pushes it somewhere slightly off. That is usually where the good stuff lives.

No one has ever bought a garment because of the bartack. No one has ever noticed one either. And it is still one of the few stitches that decide whether your back pocket is still there in a year.

The details nobody specs are usually where good and cheap quietly part ways. The bartack is our favourite example, so we pulled it apart.

Quiet luxury is the most misunderstood segment in fashion right now. Most brands chasing it think it is a neutral palette and a cropped logo. It is not. It is the hardest thing in the industry to actually pull off, because the moment you strip the branding, there is nowhere to hide. The fabric, the cut, the construction and the finish become the entire brand, and every shortcut shows on a plain garment in a way it never does on a loud one.

So we mapped out how we would actually run one, from range size to mill to the box it ships in. Not as a pitch, but to show where these decisions live and what they cost. Most brands are buying the look. The ones that last are buying the decisions underneath it.

100K.

The goal was never followers. It was simpler than that: help brands make great product, and share everything we learn along the way. The industry keeps its best information behind closed doors. We decided to build with ours open. Somewhere in there we learned the thing nobody tells you: giving what you know away is the most rewarding part of having it.

A hundred thousand of you walked in. Founders, designers, operators. People who care about the same details we do.

We also learned what success actually looks like. It’s not our number. It’s a brand hitting theirs, and a customer somewhere holding a product that was made with care, by people on two sides of the world who found more in common than not.

To the brands who trusted us before anyone knew our name, and to our people in Phoenix and Guangzhou who catch what nobody else sees: this number belongs to you.

We’re just getting started.
