Look at the streetwear brands doing serious revenue right now and a pattern shows up. Almost all of them have moved into athleisure or built a dedicated performance line.

That isn’t a coincidence. Once a brand reaches scale, it has to make clothes people wear every day, and every day now includes the commute, the gym and the weather.

Technical fabric isn’t a nice-to-have for later. If you’re planning to grow, it belongs in the plan now.

Workwear has a real place in everyday wardrobes now, and a lot of that comes down to how it looks once it’s been worn in.

There are two ways to get there. A wash can give you that faded, lived-in look from day one, but it has to look like real years of use, not a shortcut. Or you go the traditional way: start with raw, sturdy fabric and let the wearer build the patina themselves. It takes longer, but it’s more rewarding when it’s earned rather than bought.

Even if your brand doesn’t touch formalwear, it’s worth knowing how a collar is built. Polos, overshirts, workwear, a camp collar for summer. It shows up in more places than you’d think, usually right when you’re not ready for it.

Better to understand it now than learn it on your first sample.

Packaging is where the price gets justified before the garment is even out of the bag. The weight of the box, the way a pouch closes, the bag someone carries down the street for the rest of the afternoon, or the frosted bag that arrives in the mail. None of it changes how the piece fits. All of it changes how the purchase feels.

Your packaging is a low hanging opportunity to elevate the customer experience. Treat it as part of the range, give it some reasonable thought.
