Let me address the rumors and clear a few things up.
As of right now, we are not going anywhere. Could that change? Maybe, but right now we are still locked into our lease with The Meadows. However, we have paused purchasing new inventory because, quite honestly, we do not know what the future holds.
If the decision is made for us to permanently close our doors and end this chapter of our lives, you will be the first to know, and we will share that information with you in a professional and respectful way. We hope to have answers sooner rather than later, but for now, we are taking things day by day while we wait for more information. Right now, we are simply trying to survive.
Now that the situation surrounding The Meadows has become public, I can finally be a little more transparent. We never wanted to be the ones to put anyone on blast, but the reality is that things have been going downhill for quite some time.
Our air-conditioning unit has now been broken for two weeks, and we were told there simply are not funds available to repair it. That, along with numerous other unresolved issues, has left us in an incredibly difficult position with very few options.
We have been loyal and dependable tenants at The Meadows for more than eight years. We have consistently paid our rent, cared for our space and worked hard to bring customers into this shopping center—many of whom have told us they came to The Meadows specifically to visit our store. After everything we have poured into this business and this location, it feels as though we have been dealt a very unfair hand.
Because of the uncertainty surrounding the future of The Meadows, we strongly encourage anyone with a gift card to come in, take advantage of our current sales and use it. All discounted merchandise is marked FINAL SALE, and we have temporarily paused the sale of new gift cards until we have a clearer plan moving forward.
While I’m addressing things, I also need to speak about what happened in our storefront today.
To the woman who came in and was incredibly disrespectful to my employee: shame on you. Please do better.
Our signs clearly state that all sales are final. Still, when the item you purchased did not fit or work out, we were willing to bend that policy and offer you store credit toward something else.
Instead of appreciating that compromise, you repeatedly accused us of conducting “dirty business.”
We are not doing dirty business. We are selling our inventory at a discount to our customers so we can continue paying our bills while facing an extremely uncertain future.
In my eight years of owning this small business, I have bent or broken our policies more times than I can count in an attempt to make people happy. Maybe always trying to please everyone is partly why I now find myself in this position. But I will not tolerate anyone disrespecting my employees for simply following the policies that I put in place.
Please be careful with the accusations you make. There is a real family behind this business—the same family that has poured its heart, time and livelihood into it for more than eight years.
Times are difficult for everyone, and you never truly know what another person is dealing with behind the scenes. It costs absolutely nothing to be kind and show a little grace to a small business that is simply trying to survive an incredibly difficult season.
Please do better and keep us and the rest of the small business at The Meadows in your prayers!
