Behind the design: Heartbeat edition 💗.
This was one of our very first designs back in 2018, and I literally hand drew it on a piece of notebook paper. Not the most professional way to do things, but we were just getting started, had next to zero graphic design skills, and I was just looking for a way to get the ideas in my head into something tangible. And, luckily, this one resonated.
Over the years, I've contemplated making a more current version of this, but I've always come back to the moment in time of the original heartbeat design. A feeling that I wanted to convey that meant connection, nature, love, and simplicity, all things that feel more important than ever.
So, as we approach the month of love, we're re-releasing the heartbeat design in the original chalky mint color along with multiple other colorways as an on-demand option. Order now at https://bit.ly/4k20nYv .

The trend says that 2026 is the new 2016, so let's look back, shall we?
In 2016, I was in my second full year in Milwaukee after moving from Chicago. I was closing out my bridesmaid era and tip toeing into auntie life to my friends' kids -- all the while wondering if I would have or even want those same main character moments for myself. I turned 30 at the lake, spent a lot of time at Milwaukee bars, restaurants and baseball games and traveled when time and funds allowed. I bought my first house that I renovated from top to bottom and then brought my best bud home 🐾. I didn't know it then, but the groundwork for Do North was already being laid and would come to fruition in 2017.
I wish I could go back and tell that girl to live fully in those carefree, overly IG-filtered moments and trust her own gut and timeline. That the things that were meant for her would find her -- with some bravery and hard work and some real dumb luck.
Things feel a little heavier now, either because of age or circumstance or both, but I'm glad that girl took some chances to get us to where we are today 🩷.

DESIGN CHECK! Help me decide on a direction for this design.
This "Good Land, Great Lakes, Midwest Best" concept has been sitting in my design drafts for....years? I've never been able to pull the trigger on it, but I've always had this idea for a vintage baseball-ish vibe. These options may not be exactly it but help me decide which direction to keep moving forward with. I want 2026 to be the year this gets out into the world 🖤.

AI is helpful for many things, but it's given POD (print-on-demand) a bad name. There are plenty of AI-generated, bot "companies" that use POD to produce bad products and cut out any human element, but that's not what we're doing here.

In recent months, we've begun introducing occasional POD products as a way to keep stock fresh, offer more size, color and garment options and test some new designs with customers. POD helps us align to a pace that is more consistent with the fast turnover of retail while also managing overhead costs and sticking to better creative and sustainability models. We do relinquish some production control (and profit margins) by using this model, but the benefit is that we get to keep creating and connecting...which is always the goal.
OUR POD PROMISE:
🤞There will ALWAYS be a person behind the design who built that product from the heart.
🤞We'll sample garments IRL for quality and consistency before we release them to the public.
🤞The product description will include a disclaimer on any POD items.
🤞Our goal is NOT to become a POD-only brand. We'll continue to show up with real stock in real life, when possible and relevant.
🤞We'll do our very best to mitigate any production issues with our POD printers, if needed.
