Exciting News for Fishing with Z Guide Services LLC! We have brought on a new Muskie guide! Noah Honsey is joining the FWZ guide team as a Muskie only guide. He will be running night time Muskie trips from now until October 31st. These trips will run from 7:00PM until 12AM capitalizing on those dusk and after dark feeding windows.

Noah has put in countless hours learning how to put Muskies in the boat and perfecting his craft of catching the fish of 10,000 casts. He started his season last week with a beautiful 50” Lake Vermilion giant! It ate a Red October baits tube.

Here at Fishing with Z Guide Services LLC we strive to provide the best guided experience possible and we are Lake Vermilion’s premier guide service, whether that’s for walleyes, smallmouth or Muskies!

We are excited to welcome Noah to the team and we are looking forward to a bunch of new and exciting things we are working on for the future as well! Openings starting at the end of this week!

Fishing Report!!

Week #5 6/8-6/15

Water temps: 59-64

Well, as fast it was really good, it’s really slow for us!!! This weather front and wind sure has the fish hard to catch right now. The keepers we are getting are stuffed to the gills with crayfish as well, which isn’t helping anything.

Our main presentation this week is still a bobber with a leech! Floating a leech 1-2’ off bottom over the top of wind blown rocks has produced the most fish for us this week. We have caught a few fish on crawlers whether that be a jig or bobber set up.

Our depths have been all over the place searching for active fish. We have caught fish as shallow as 6’ and as deep as 20’. Moving around has been the name of the game this week just trying to find a few active fish on fishable spots with this wind.

As we start the second half of June it’s almost time for the mayfly hatch. I expect crawlers to really start to take off and be more effective each and every day as there’s already a lot of bugs in the water in certain areas.

We will start to see some fish, not all, moving deeper and lindy rigs will start to play a part in how we target fish. Bobbers and jigs will be effective throughout the entire summer but will slowly start to be phased out of my boat in the coming weeks.

The bass are still biting! We are seeing some really nice ones every day and they will become more and more popular as we reach mid summer! Pick your favorite top water or plastic and target large boulders or boat docks for some awesome smallmouth action!

This was a tough week fishing, simple as that. The weather plays an impact in that but that’s no excuse. Fish have to eat sooner or later and we will figure out how to catch them. Keep moving spots, try different techniques, and try to not get blown away!

July and August dates are already starting to book up. Getting on the books early is never a bad thing! Lock in your dates today for the amazing late summer bite as well as the always fun lead core bite in August.

A few nice fish hit the net this morning! Lost a few more really good ones and missed a bunch more. This weather change sure has them goofed up but that’s fishing! Back after it this afternoon!

2.5 more weeks of the spring and early summer busy season and then it’s time to relax and target nothing but smallmouth for 7 days straight. Going to be really interesting to see what size fish we can bring into the boat!!

Fishing report will be tomorrow at noon! I will have updated July availability in there as well as my predictions for what’s to come as we approach the mayfly hatch and start to roll into mid summer!

Only 5 nice keepers this morning! A lot of my spots have large toothy critters chasing the walleyes around making it tough to stay consistent. Even caught a few nice smallies this morning! Nice to see some footballs starting to show up after the spawn! Back at this afternoon!

Now booking for the end of July and into August! The late summer bite can make for some of the best action of the entire season and the leadcore bite is always a great time! Don’t miss out! Give me a call or text anytime (218) 404-9200 or book directly online at fishingwithz.com!!

Fishing Report!!!!

Week #4 6/1-6/8

Water temps: 68-70

This week was the best week of fishing we have had the entire season! With a mixture of great action, really nice keepers, and a bunch of slots it was an all around great week!

As I’m sure many people figured out this week, the shallow rock bite is going and in full swing. Our best bite was 4-12’ rocks. Points and rock piles were the main areas of focus for us.

Throwing a trusty bobber with a leech produced the most fish all week long. Making sure your leech was 12” or so off the bottom was key, sometimes even higher based on the fish and spot. We did catch a few fish on plastics but that action was not as frequent as a leech.

Finding areas with wind is always a huge help to finding active walleyes. Let your leech soak and float into the rock to trigger bites from even the laziest of eyes. Hot sunny days seemed to have the walleyes fired up nearly all day long and it’s made for some good fun on the water.

A few keys to getting the most bites this week… let them eat the leech and don’t get too quick with setting the hook, keep moving until you find active fish, and capitalize on the evening hours right before dark.

Don’t overcomplicate things. It’s a bobber and a leech. Find a point or rock pile and throw them up on top during the low light hours, or even mid day when it’s hot, and you’ll probably catch some walleyes! Keep it simple!

As we keep rolling into summer, this weather front I’m sure will change the bite. I already saw a change in the bite this morning, much slower and they were very finicky and just grabbing the back of the leeches.

July and August dates are already starting to book as well. Getting on the books early is never a bad thing! Lock in your dates today for the amazing late summer bite as well as the always fun lead core bite in August.

Another great morning trip! A nice bonus fish was a nearly 40” pike that decent to bite our walleye set ups! Not the typical target but no complaints about that high quality of a fish! A lot of throw backs this morning too, tons of actions just not enough of the right size ones!

Another incredible summer day on The Big V! Started the day helping out fellow guide Al’s Guide Service on Lake Vermilion with a big group! 1 slot, 1 over and 8 nice keepers in our boat plus a few more limits of nice keepers in his boat!

Ended the day out of Glenmore Resort - Lake Vermilion, MN with a stellar evening bite ending two short of their four person limit. Highlight was a 23.5” walleye along with this being their first trip to the lake!

Day off tomorrow, then back at it on Sunday for another full week of making memories with awesome people!
