THIS THURSDAY, October 9th at 5:30PM is the VASA Ski Clubs annual presentation of the Banff Mountain Film Festival at the City Opera House in Traverse City!

All of the proceeds from the nights ticket sales go directly toward supporting the VASA Ski Clubs winter youth nordic skiing programs, and its a always a fun time with lots of great films that are sure to stoke your inner adventurer.

We still have tickets available at both Traverse City Backcountry North locations for $20.

Although mother nature threw some colder than expected temps our way; we had an absolute BLAST on the water with Wenonah Canoe this past Sunday at their "Paddle with the pros" event. It was a great opportunity to for us do a deep dive into the latest canoe technology and to test paddle all of the different canoe shapes and styles to see how each boat handles relative to another. Thanks Wenonah for taking the time to make it happen!

An event many of you have been asking for!

Sunday May 18th, 2025 - 9:30AM-12:00PM - Wenonah Paddle with the Pro's hosted by Backcountry North

Wenonah Canoe has arranged to send one of their top Canoe instructors to Traverse City along with a trailer full of Canoes to provide on water training and instruction.

We will start on the beach and talk a little bit about Wenonah's long and storied history before diving into the various different model families (and which one is best for you), the various materials used (Composite vs. T-Formex) and how they behave, and the key features and benefits associated with each canoe.

We will then move to the water, where we will focus on different strokes and a techniques to make you a more proficient paddler, as well as how to use your equipment and the sliding seats to properly trim your canoe.

Afterwards, there will be ample opportunity to "test paddle" all of the different canoes that Wenonah has to offer, and ask questions directly with the Wenonah and Backcountry North staff.

If you have been thinking about getting a canoe (but aren't sure which one is best for you) or are simply looking to hone your skills this event is for you.

This event is free to attend - but space is limited to 8 participants to make sure everyone has the opportunity to paddle all of the boats and have enough one on one time with the instructor.
