“And she brought forth her firstborn Son, and wrapped Him in swaddling cloths, and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn” Luke 2:7
In the fields around Jerusalem, in the town of Bethlehem was a special sheepfold where shepherds, ordered by Jewish rabbis, stood watch over sheep destined to be sacrificial lambs. When the lambs were born they were inspected for defects. If they were perfect, they were wrapped in cloths, called swaddling cloths to protect them from injury.
When Mary entered the stable to deliver Jesus, the only available covering for him were swaddling cloths…fabric to wrap our perfect sacrifice for sin. Every detail of the Gospel is ordained by our loving Father.
May you find Him ready to offer you peace with God and eternal life this season. He is our hope of salvation, our Messiah, the Lamb of God.
