Winter is rough on skin, and dark patchouli is one of those old, reliable plant allies that really shines this time of year. This isn’t the sharp patchouli most people remember — dark patchouli is deeper, smoother, and warm like sun-soaked earth.

The scent lingers softly, grounding you in that cozy, “I’m home” kind of way. And the oil itself is amazing for dry winter skin: calming, moisturizing, and gentle enough for everyday use.

This batch of cold process bars came out beautifully — rich, creamy lather and that warm, earthy aroma that just feels good on a cold morning.

If you’ve never tried dark patchouli before, winter is the perfect time. Your skin will thank you, and your spirit will, too. ❄️🌿✨

FEATURED ARTIST: Jolynn Chappell and her "Home Sweet Home" Lizard and Skull bronze on display at Compton Ridge Clothiers $650.

This bronze piece is a small lizard exploring the cavities of a badger skull. These little lizards are quite fun to observe and if
you are still long enough, they will hang out with you for a bit. This piece was inspired when I found a badger skull and wanted to create it into a bronze, and the lizard was an obvious candidate to be a part of the creation. It depicts the intricate details of the multitude of species we all share this amazing earth with. As a retired veterinarian with a passion for animals, I have discovered how fascinating and challenging it is to capture the essence of the birds and animals I so love and create them into bronze. I am now a self-taught artist, with the help of a friend and mentor, as I learn the amazing world of bronze sculptures and how to integrate it into my current knowledge of the birds and animals’ anatomy that I already know.

Creators' Crawl Note: It is so detailed and intricate with the heft of bronze!

FEATURED ARTIST: Gary Hessling. Coyote Moon - Forged copper and turquoise bolo. $350 found at Compton Ridge Clothiers. Gary reflects on his artistic journey: "As a sculptor using forged steel as my medium using varied materials, processes and cross purposes, I have tried to expand the traditional blacksmith pallet. However, realizing the toll that working with forged steel and larger works has taken on the body -- hot, dirty, hazardous work-- I have changed my focus to smaller forged copper pieces which I call wearable sculpture. Forged metal has a surface that draws the eye and hand to explore its texture. Each dimple, facet and mark resulting from thousands of hammer strikes are requisite to the finished piece and not just random, crude, attacks on the metal to make it appear honestly worked."

Creators' Crawl Note: It's GORGEOUS!

FEATURED ARTIST: Donovan Canale "Trinidad Nights" Mixed media $800 displayed at Compton Ridge Clothiers 45x22

Donovan tells us about his piece, "This faux stained-glass painting reimagines Trinidad, Colorado’s music scene as a window into both earth and sky. The composition begins with the guitar-like form rooted in golden tones at the base, its lines curling outward like living vines — a symbol of music growing from the community itself. Above, the palette shifts into deep reds and vibrant blues, where arched sound waves ripple toward a cosmic expanse of stars, moonlight, and spiraling galaxies.
The stained-glass technique emphasizes light and division: each segment holding its own color and rhythm, yet together forming harmony. Just as in live performance, every voice, every instrument adds to a greater whole. Here, Trinidad is not only the setting but the source — the place where music rises from the ground, resonates through the night air, and echoes into the infinite."

Creators' Crawl Note: What a cool piece to commemorate the Fancy Spider Music Festival...

FEATURED ARTIST: Emily Reynolds Mixed Media Sculpture "Communal" displayed at Compton Ridge Clothiers $750.

Emily describes her work and love of spiders, "For my piece I took inspiration from the tarantula migration, which I recently got to see in person after living here for several years. I think it's wonderful how this community shares its space and celebrates these beautiful creatures, and I really wanted that to come through in my sculpture. My piece depicts a woman covered in tarantulas, highlighting the diversity of a few species native to North and South America. On her head is the Aphonopelma Hentzi (Oklahoma Brown, most common species seen during the migration here in Southern CO), on her back is the Chromatopelma Cyaneopubescens (Green Bottle Blue, native to Venezuala), and on the bust stand is a Pamphobeteus Machala (Purple Bloom, native to Ecuador).

The box on her head is representative of a terrarium and the communal space we all share with these arachnids. I sculpted the bust and spiders in Blender using 3D Modeling, 3D printed in resin, and then painted with acrylic.

Creators' Crawl Note: This is one of those must-see works, a good kind of creepy that you can't look away!
