Jackson County Sheriff David Lucas says authorities have few leads so far regarding 25 year old Sydney Surtherland. Sutherland was reported missing by her family yesterday when she didn’t return from an afternoon jog. Sutherland lives with her boyfriend along Highway 18 West of Grubbs. Additional family lives nearby. Sheriff Lucas said it was normal for Sutherland to walk and jog in the afternoon making a loop on county roads 41, 42, 43 and Highway 18. Lucas said a UPS driver reported seeing Sutherland walking on County Road 41 between 2:30 and 3:00 yesterday. Multiple law enforcement agencies have been searching that area in addition to state police and medical helicopters, crop dusters, ATVs and general public. So far, nothing. Sutherland had been in Jonesboro earlier in the day yesterday working out at a downtown gym. Lucas said he is working with Chief Rick Elliott in Jonesboro and Sheriff Kevin Molder in Poinsett Cointy to review security footage seeking any clues. Lucas said Sutherland’s boyfriend and family have been cooperative and are not suspects although Lucas said he is not ruling anything out at this time. The search will continue through the afternoon.
The county roads mentioned by the Sheriff cross Highway 67 Northeast of Newport at Exit 87. There is a white windmill near that exit. Lucas said anyone driving through that area yesterday between 2 and 4 that saw anything should call the Jackson county sheriffs office. Lucas said information that you may not believe to be significant could very well be valuable to them so please report anything you saw.
