It's the first Monday of the month, which means new affirmations. September's set is about ownership.
Greenwood was founded around 1905 and grew into a full world: theaters, stores, barber shops, beauty salons, restaurants. After the 1921 massacre destroyed it, residents rebuilt it themselves. Decades later, Interstate 244 took another piece of it. The district is growing again now, and our whole reason for existing is to support that rebuilding and back the next generation of Black entrepreneurs.
So borrow this from the people who came before us:
I own what I make. I finish what I start. I build like somebody is coming after me, because somebody is.
If you want the story behind the affirmations, it lives all over our work at www.theshopongreenwoodbws.com. Save this post and read it every Monday this month.
