First off, I do not believe we should ever deny Christ.
However, I interpret this scene as a powerful reminder of what Christ has truly done for us. No matter what you have done, said, or thought, Christ bore it on the cross.
This is not a promotion of denying the Lord. It’s a reminder that no one is too far gone for His mercy. No failure is beyond His grace. No sin is greater than the sacrifice He made for us.
He took our place, and because of that, we can be forgiven.
