We made this pair of Roper style boots in a size 5D (US 6D). Of course I'm always nervous with followup phone call. He said "They feel good." That's what we like to hear.

What can be done when you tear up the toes on a favorite pair of boots. We cab get creative and do "wingtips" of various shapes and sizes to disguise a damaged toe. Sometimes this includes rebuilding the toe box - for instance: the dog chewed them. Or cat scratched them. Or maybe a horse stepped on the toe.

Here's more on welting & stacked leather heel bases. When you want your boots to look as close to new as possible, welting is a must. It's not only a part of looking good, but also a part of function. The welt is hand stitched on to the upper, then later the sole is stitched to the welting with (in our case) a Landis 12 Curved Needle Sole Stitcher.
I just can't imagine sending your beloved boots back with the old welts on. Many times they're dried and cracking and will tear apart from the upper after you start wearing them with new soles on.
Now on stacked leather heel bases:
A lot of manufacturers are putting on heel bases made manmade material - like fibre. These routinely delaminate and fall apart while you're wearing them or when we removed them for repair. So we will replace bad heel bases with new ones. In the pic below there is the old one and one finished. The finishing actually happens after installing but we did this one just to show you.
If you have them resoled somewhere else be sure and ask them if they will be replacing the heel bases with stacked leather heel bases.

Sometimes a resole job seems pricey. Please consider what all you're getting. On 99% of workbook and cowboy boot resoles, the welt needs replacing. Here's a couple workboots with the welting on (the one on the right already has the mid-sole and sole attached). So if you're getting a resole somewhere always ask if they will be re-welting your boots.
