My first attempt at some true detail work 👀 (and trying to be like Fitzwater Leather )

“Pride of the West Side” — Station 2 decorative shield, coming in at a whopping 8.5” wide!

I’m terrible about posting projects before they’re completely finished, but after laying down that last brush stroke of paint, I just couldn’t wait on this one.

Still a little work left before it’s officially done, but I’m pretty dang happy with how this one is coming together. 🔥

Finished and delivered! 🔥

Really enjoyed bringing this custom welding arm cover—or “sissy pad”—to life. The customer wanted something subtle but still eye-catching, with a few details tying it back to his career as a fireman.

Custom designed. Hand tooled. Hand painted. Built one piece at a time—just how custom leatherwork should be. 🤘🏼

A little update! Not much has changed visually, but the final bit of paint is officially laid down. 🙌

Tomorrow, this piece will be ready for oil and antique—and I’m seriously excited to see this thing come to life once that antique hits the tooling. 🥵🔥

Ever wonder why custom leather work has such a long lead time? This is why! 😂

Graphic & pattern design: 4 hours
Graphic transfer: 1 hour
Cutting in the graphic: 1 hour
First tooling pass (pictured): 4 hours

10 hours in, and I’m not even halfway there. 🥵

Still have the rest of the tooling, antiquing, and paint to go—but I’m already super excited to see how this one turns out. 👀

The amount of time that goes into a fully hand-tooled piece is no joke!

Now THIS is the kind of radio strap I love to make! 👀

Not a single stamp was used on this fully custom strap. From the handmade nature pattern to the custom lettering, every detail was drawn, cut, and tooled completely by hand.

There’s just something special about taking an idea and turning it into a one-of-a-kind piece that you won’t find anywhere else.

The finished product 👀

By no means is this perfect—it’s my first ever attempt—but overall, I’m pretty happy with how it turned out!

I used 12 oz. saddle leather for the center tooling, paired with some 3 oz. decorative leather for the backing, with the brand-new logo shining right in the center.

Typically, a design like this would be stained and antiqued, but since this one is a personal project, I decided to leave the leather naturally oiled. I love the character that comes with watching natural leather develop its own patina over time.

Definitely a learning experience, but I’m pretty happy with the finished product. 🤘

It’s been so long that I almost forgot how much I love making custom tooled belts.

From creating the pattern to laying down the tooling and putting the final burnish on the edges, this one was a blast from start to finish. There’s just something about taking a blank piece of leather and turning it into something completely one-of-a-kind.

Really happy with how this one turned out!

A new addition to the ever-growing list of things I never thought would come across my work table!

I guess as long as Pinterest exists, my wife will keep sending me ideas like this tooled phone stand. And honestly, I’m not mad about it.
