Sitting here, watching "Uptown Saturday Night" on Tubi and thinking about My father. Seeing movies like this, was a huge part of our bond.

His birthday is tomorrow. He would have been 75yrs old. He is deeply missed. But never forgotten!

Shout out to Scramblelock aka Mark S for blessing me with this exclusive clip of The Lockers on "The Midnight Special" on NBC, May 23 1975. Hosted by Don Cornelius. I believe this is the 1st of 2 appearances on The Midnight Specia. The other one they have tuxuedo coats on. I could be mistaken but it doesn't matter. This clip is hot, nonetheless! Enjoy

Saw something today that really had me shaking my head. Some people just cant be themselves! Not only do they misrepresent who they really are and their place in history, they misappropriate an entire style of dance that was not created by them.

"The Campbellock" aka "Locking" was created by Don "Campbellock" Campbell, in 1970, at LA Trade Tech College, Downtown Los Angeles.Yes, people added on to it, thru their own signature movements and unison dances that were "Lockified" to fit into routines for performances. But it's foundation, philosophy, and essence, is all Don "Campbellock" Campbell.

I am saddened, but not surprised. This type of stuff has been going on for over 40yrs. I just feel bad for all the students of this dance, both new and old, who have been fed lies, misinformation and half truths, all in the name of self-preservation, self-relevance, and financial gain. Whether it be about their closeness to Don Campbell, their place in history, their relevance in history, or the dance's place in the civil rights movement.

The dance has nothing to do with the civil rights movement. Certain People have said things regarding the teaching of his dance like- Don was dead, retired, had no, interested in teaching his dance, allowed someone( friend or relative) to teach the dance in his place, didn't know how to get in touch with Don, and even pretended to be him.

I can't change the perception that people have about him. Just provide the accurate information, regarding him and his dance, so people can decide for themselves.

What a pleasant surprise! When a popular artist (JHope), from one of the most popular bands in the world , decides to show his love for Locking, on his very own documentary about his personal dance journey and includes notes on the screen, in English, about Don "Campbellock" Campbell being the creator of "The Campbellock" aka "Locking", includes footage of Don, and mentions that Don came over to Korea and taught in the early 2000s, there is nothing you can do but smile and thank "The Man Upstairs", just like Don would do! Proud Family Moment!

Billy Preston and The Lockers 1974! Found out about this video this morning and had to post it! I have known for years that it existed but never saw it until now!! This would be considered a music video, because the performance is about promoting the song "Nothing from Nothing" by the great Billy Preston in 1974. My father would have loved seeing this. Especially since it's never been available before. Thank you Marco De Santiago for sending this to me. We, as a family, truly appreciate it.

1st post: In Feb.1972, 51yrs ago this month, Don "Campbellock" Campbell penned and sang the lyrics to his song "Campbell Lock", which is about his dance , which he created in 1970, as a mistake, while trying to mimic a dance called "The Robot Shuffle.

His dance gained him notoriety. From the cafeteria of LA Trade Tech College to the nightclubs such as "The Summit" and "The Apt." to his dynamic turn of performances on the groundbreaking TV show "SoulTrain".

Because of his iconic dancing in SoulTrain, the song was released by the record label Stanson, under the name Don "SoulTrain" Campbell, to capitalize on his fame from the show.

The song initially charted all across the country, hitting #4 on the black music charts in North Carolina. But due to pressure from famous record companies and payola scandals, the song was quickly buried and forgotten.

It has been sampled in the past. Most notably by , on the theme song to

2nd post: Did you know Don "Campbellock" Campbell was the reason Street Dancers get paid today?

As a dancer on and a handpicked dancer for SoulTrain's Concert tours across the country, Don saw firsthand, that not only was he valuable to Soultrain but all the dancers were. When Don did the tours, he noticed that folks in the audience were dressed like him and doing his dance, which he was grateful for but also concerned.

He was told by many different acts on the tours that he and the other dancers from Soultrain should be getting paid for what they were bringing to the concerts and the shows. On the show, He noticed they were always making sure he was on time for the tapings, was in an area where the camera could see him, and told to put on a show when the camera did focus on him. Campbell called this "Pay Stuff", which was the same stuff the acts getting paid to perform on the show had to do.

So Campbell got it in his head that he would try to gather the dancers to picket/boycott being on the show so they all could get paid for their time and for performing on the show. When Don Cornelius got word of what Campbell was trying to do, He barred "The Campbellock" from being done on the show. And since that was the only dance Campbell could do, being barred specifically meant him. No one else was kicked off

So together with the legendary , who told Don, if he got a group of dancers who could do his dance and with him as the focal point, they might have something. They did. And made history in the process.
