Greetings to friends of Freedom's Rings!

There is an important announcement I need to make, the domains and business license are due in a few weeks for Freedom's Rings and I have decided not to continue them at this time.

I still would love to have the opportunity to create a special ring for you, but will not be pursuing any other options than this page on Facebook

Freedom's Rings domains, freedomsrings.com and freedomsrings.net are on the market for sell, and whether purchased or not, will be desolved on July 7th. So if you've reached this page by using those web addresses they will no longer connect you to this account and you will have to access via Facebook directly.

I am also keeping the email account, [email protected] open for the foreseeable future, and of course I can be directly messaged here.

Have a great day!

And now the 5th and final phase, the finishing touches and details. Simultaneously my least favorite but most rewarding phase.

Filing, sanding and polishing the two opening edges of the ring to a mirror finish, not only provides the cosmetic enhancement of the final ring but also completes the proper sizing.

Once that is set the ring is cleaned and scrubbed with a decreasing cleaner and then treated to dip in a solution of hot water with "Liver of Sulphur". This solution almost instantly creates a patina on the silver, turning it a dark gray. This is done to then use a super fine steel wool on the surfaces, inside and out, to accentuate the lettering, details and graphics that are minted into the coin, my FAVORITE part 😍. Once the maker is satisfied the ring is polished a final time on the edges and then cleaned and scrubbed one final time in preparation for the sealer, a clear coat that will help to protect the patina from a bit of wear.

On to phase 4.

The most critical stage as it is the process of getting the ring to the right size, clients don't like rings that are not the correct size and they shouldn't get one that isn't the size requested.

Taking the oversized ring from phase 3, phase 4 reduces or compresses the ring on the reeded edge (the "sizing" edge) to ½-¾ size SMALLER than the requested size. This is because in the process of compression, the lip on the edge of the coin forms a quite sharp and uncomfortable surface on the interior of the ring, not only will clients not tolerate a ring of the wrong size, they should also expect a ring that is comfortable to wear. The lip created in compression must be removed, by carving and by sanding. The trick is to end up with the ring being the size needed at the point the material is removed, and to do it without destroying the interior details of the ring.

Phase 3.

The client requires a size 8 for this 90% silver proof Alabama Statehood coin ring. Phase 3 is the stretching process in which the ring actually must be oversized by 1 to 1½ sizes in order to correct the profile of the ring to a balanced presentation. As pictured, the sizing edge is sitting at 9¼.
