The energy at the Okinawan Festival this weekend was unmatched, and even though it just wrapped up, we’re already counting down to next year! 🌺

I can’t pinpoint the exact year of my very first Okinawan Festival, but one of my favorite memories is visiting my great-grandfather while he was volunteering back when it was held at Kapiʻolani Park. Every year we participate, I take a quiet moment during the festival to talk to my great-grandparents. I say a silent pray and ask them if they’re proud of where we are and what we’re creating. I don’t always get a clear answer, but carrying on this tradition—showing up, participating, and honoring our heritage—gives me a feeling I can’t quite put into words.

It’s easily one of our favorite events of the year, and for good reason. Celebrating our Nishihara roots alongside thousands of fellow Uchinanchu, talking story, sharing our work, and feeling that deep connection is what makes the Hawaiʻi Okinawan community so special.
We’re exhausted, elated, and already dreaming of next year.

Ippee Nifee deebiru to everyone who stopped by and celebrated with us! 💛✨

HELP us give a BIG お誕生日おめでとう !! To the main guy behind the scences, in front of the scenes, stage left and right, the old Japanese man behind the noren shouting at us from his sewing machine! The one whom all of Mise would not have been possible without. The one who is more than a boss and an owner…heʻs a brother, a sensei, a partner, a friend, one who will be the first to help slap you with a bit of reality but will always be there to listen and help. If you know Shannon, you know that behind his sassy quips he has a really big heart…just don’t tell him that cause he will for sure roll his eyes! It was his vision and promise to our Grandma to always move through the world with our culture at the forefront and our family legacy as the backbone. If only she could see him now I know she would be beyond proud of who heʻs become and what he has built. For real, she would be bragging to all her “best friends”. So to the one that keeps us all moving along and the captain of this ship, HAPPY BIRTHDAY ya stupemʻ bitch!

ALSO be sure to share your happy birthday wishes by celebrating with us TODAY from 2PM–4PM at Mise on Market! 🍵🎈

Mise Fam, thank you from the bottom of our hearts for another incredible, event-filled weekend. 🌺✨

From sewing during the late night and early morning hours to running our booth at the Hawaii Convention Center, our hearts (and feet!) are completely full.

We are beyond humbled to share that this was officially our best year ever at Made in Hawaii since we first opened our booth in 2021. 🥹🧵

When we started this journey, it was always about honoring the hands that came before us—upcycling heritage textiles into pieces that carry stories, connection, and memory. Seeing so many of you wear your Mise pieces into the dance ring, stop by the booth to share your own family histories, or join the Mise Fam for the very first time reminds us exactly why we do what we do.

Every smile, every conversation, every share, and every piece that found a new home this weekend keeps this legacy alive and thriving.

To our long-time Mise Fam who came by just to cheer us on, to all the new friends we met over the last few days, and to our Maui neighbor HI Darling Shop☀️ —mahalo for your energy, your love, and for lifting us up. We couldn't do any of this without you.

Until the next party, next market, and next story—mahalo nui loa! 👘❤️
お疲れ様でした
