🎶 MEET GENE JOHNSON—A TRUE PORCH ORIGINAL 🪚

If you’ve spent much time around our porch, chances are you’ve met Gene Johnson—or at least heard him pickin’ before you made it through the door.

Gene is a veteran, a talented musician, a gifted woodworker and one of those special people who always seems to arrive with a smile and leave everybody else wearing one, too.

When we first opened the porch to local musicians, Gene was our very first picker. He helped bring the music to life around here, and he still shows up ready to sit in with just about anybody willing to pull up a chair and play a tune. It doesn’t matter who joins the circle—Gene fits right in and makes it feel like they’ve been playing together for years.

And when he isn’t making music, he’s usually making something out of wood. Gene’s handiwork can be found all over the porch and inside the shop, including our wooden cooler, plant stands, birdhouses, jack-o’-lantern boxes and those four-foot wooden snowmen that are mighty hard to miss!

Gene is part musician, part craftsman and 100% good company. He’s been part of this porch from the beginning, and Fires Creek Outdoors simply wouldn’t feel the same without him.

So the next time you see Gene sitting here with a guitar in his hands, stop and say hello. Better yet, bring an instrument and pull up a chair—there’s a pretty good chance he’ll know a song or two. ❤️🇺🇸

The porch chairs are empty, the shop lights are off and we’re officially doing as little labor as possible this Labor Day. 😂

Fires Creek Outdoors is closed today while we enjoy a little time with family, friends and these beautiful mountains we’re lucky enough to call home.

We’ll be back Thursday at 10 a.m. Until then, rest your feet, eat something good and leave tomorrow’s chores right where they are.

Danny isn’t just a talented woodworker with a shop here at Hogsed’s Village—he is our friend, our neighbor and an important part of this little community.
As Danny courageously battles cancer, we’re coming together to show our love and support for him and his family.

Please join us at Hogsed’s Village on Sunday, September 6, from 11 AM–4 PM for a day filled with good food, good friends and neighbors helping neighbors.

🌭 Hot dogs
🍰 Cake auction beginning at 1 PM
🎟️ Raffles with some wonderful prizes—including a beautiful cabinet handcrafted by Danny and valued at $899!

Raffle tickets are $5 each or five for $20. Drawings will be held October 4, and you do not need to be present to win.
