Happy 3-year anniversary to Buttonwood shop. Today’s version of Buttonwood is typically me toting along my sewing basket every time I get in the car, stitching away in the passenger’s seat in prep for our next fair. (Pic 1)😊

Swipes reflect the Pisces full moon on the shop’s opening day in 2023 (which is cool considering we just experienced the Pisces lunar eclipse 🤯) and the first time I hung up the open flag. I miss that little storefront, but the creative drive—and portability!—of today’s version has been the best evolution imaginable. ✨

I’ve always wanted a water bottle holder. So I made one! Two, actually. The first one had some exploratory imperfections. This one passes the test! The wool patch was just something I played with last winter. It fit perfectly - love when that happens. ✨

Many more of these wool-adorned water bottle holders will soon-be-available… on our soon-to-be revealed online shop. 😉🎉

I’ve been meaning to make a post that highlights all the wonderful new things we’re creating. Yesterday, we attended Arts in the Park through Concord Arts Market - which held so many opportunities to share as well! But sitting here in our hammock, all I want to do is talk about our yard. 😆

it’s not actually that random though. Our yard is a very wonderful representation of the life we are aiming to lead. There is a very specific balance between the grass that is mowed, and that which is left untouched. We have an imprint on this space, which harmonizes with nature’s hand. It is about being intentional and thoughtful while remembering that we make a mark.

Buttonwood is a deep expression of human-meets-nature, too. Stitched patches of vintage wool added to new hats. Hand-drawn stickers that are designed on an iPad. Natural stones strung on leather cording that we ordered from another state. We have a big commitment to keeping our impact light, while also making choices that allow our business to exist. It’s a fine line and also an extremely important one.

So, yes, the booth photos and new product peeks are good to share! But so is a glimpse into what inspires Buttonwood to work hard. I walk through our meadow paths and think deeply about the balance that is needed to live the life we do. Some of it comes naturally. Some of it requires shaping. Some of it thrives without effort. Some of it fades, regardless of the work that was done.

Just like these fields: what is meant to grow, grows. And when effort is given without expectation, it’s hard to be disappointed. 💚

My sweetheart looks pretty sexy behind our booth, if I do say so myself. 😍 Perfect puff clouds in a crystal blue sky as we vend Kinfolk Music and Arts Festival. It takes a lot to put on a solid, well-organized event. This small-yet-mighty festival has so much heart and soul behind it; many props to Vintage Bazaar New England for creating an incredibly genuine, family-style experience with amazing sound!!! 🎶❤️

Today we wrapped up our special batch of hats for Kinfolk Music and Arts Festival at Ragged Mountain Resort this weekend 🌞⛰️🪶!!! We put a focus on the fan favorite mountain range patch, and added a new bird patch to reflect the festival’s beautiful poster (see last pic). We’re excited to see you on the mountain!! Not local? We do take special orders. 😉 Send a dm and we can collaborate on a special cap just for you. ❤️

A recent visit to Kingsbrae Garden inspired this new sticker: Garden Snail’s midnight snack. We visited during a bit of a downpour and had such a delightful time walking through a trellis tunnel bursting with oodles of slimy snail friends! 🤎

Green River Festival is in full swing & so is Buttonwood! We’re loving the abundance of sunshine, breezes, music and smiles. Charley Crockett was the icing on the cake of a successful day one. Excited for more music tonight in-between managing the booth. Thank you to all the sweet folks who’ve chatted with us and supported our work… that’s what makes it magical and possible to be here! 💚

Welcome to Buttonwood.shop! As we find ourselves making new friends, it felt like a good time to share a little backstory…

Three years ago, I opened a little retail gift shop in my small downtown—because who doesn’t want amazon alternatives? I knew I’d be lucky to break even, but it was about purpose over profit. I surrounded myself with a curated collection of independent, hand-made goods, and the inspiration worked.

By “worked,” it wasn’t exactly in the way I’d expected. It worked because It pushed me to begin creating for myself. It became harder to remain interested in working for other people. (Meanwhile, my remote job was inevitably on the chopping block because AI is a decent copywriter.)

At the time I didn’t know that my life would be shifting direction, too. I didn’t expect to part ways with my husband of almost 20 years. Buttonwood Shop was the fork in the road, and it’s the point (though not the reason) we began to walk different paths. I can understand how onlookers perceive my directional change as going astray. But funny enough, I’ve actually wound my way back onto an old, familiar trail. One I never meant to leave. One that supports the life I always imagined.

That’s when I met my partner, Eric (Piney), walking the same road. We fell into step, fell into love, and in-between a lot of important moments and developments, I watched Buttonwood grow. Truth is, one strong mind can get an idea off the ground. Two strong minds keep it afloat. We started a collection of our own offerings, which quickly became the majority of our inventory.

Math doesn’t lie, and this winter proved our retail location was hindering, not helping our success. We closed the retail space and began making our goods in our home studio in Sutton, NH. We’ve got a small line-up of summer markets locked in, and more in the making!

The true heart of our story is this: We have built a business that supports our lifestyle, just as much as we’ve built a lifestyle that supports our business. This right here is why dreams and reality are one and the same. It is all possible, though not without rock-solid alignment between the life you want to live, and the work you want to do. ❤️

✨🌲NEW!🌲✨
Very proud to share Buttonwood’s newest offering: Evergreen Seasons. This collection of essential oils carries you through the woods through four seasonally-inspired, forest-forward blends; spring, summer, autumn and winter! Sold as a full set or individually. 🌲🌸☀️🍂❄️🌲

Ever since closed her essential oils business last year, I’ve been looking for the right replacement. One thing led to the next, and now Buttonwood is crafting our own! My favorite is Evergreen Spring because patchouli. But Autumn is starting to earn special favor, and Summer is so very uplifting…

Feeling happy- It’s been a truly successful weekend at our first event of the market season! 💕
