Day 15 — I Healed My Daddy Issues
My husband was paying emotional bills that belonged to my father.
Some of the tension in my marriage had nothing to do with him.
When a woman grows up feeling unseen, unsupported, or abandoned by her father, she can unknowingly expect her husband to make up for something he didn’t break.
That’s not fair to him.
So I had to see his limitations: He’s human, just like me. My husband is my partner and God is my healer.
He is not responsible for repairing every wound from my past.
Here are the 3 things I practice:
1. I took my healing to God, not just to my husband.
He can support me, but he cannot be my source.
“He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.” Psalm 147:3
2. I stopped projecting old pain onto new situations.
Not every disagreement is abandonment. Not every silence is rejection.
“Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past.” Isaiah 43:18
3. I took responsibility for my own growth.
Healing is work. And it’s work only I can do.
“Each of us will give an account of ourselves to God.” Romans 14:12
Marriage gets healthier when I’m whole.
My husband didn’t create my wounds. But he benefits when I heal them.
I protect what I prayed for.
