The Dalai Lama says that "compassion is the radicalism of our time." I think he is right. Kindness and generosity in such times are radical. I am back to creating long-form journalism I care about one story at a time after being seriously injured in May 2021. This is a story about Stacy Chong a Parsons School of Art-trained fashion designer and the plight of the families left behind in Afghanistan. Stacy went from fast fashion design in NYC to work for the Peace Corps and NGOs in Afghanistan and Moldova. She is crowdfunding the most gorgeous trousers on the planet, featuring hand embroidery work by skilled female artisans in Kabul. As the ladies can no longer go out to work unaccompanied, SHOO Apparel is taking the work to their homes, and paying them fairly for the work. Read the despatch story and interview and fall in love with the idea of fabulous, trousers made with compassion and warrior-woman appeal! Oh, and the perfect trousers await you! AJ.
Can fabulous, slow-fashion pants help the women of Afghanistan and emulate the style and humanitarian work of Audrey Hepburn? Alison Jane writes about a fashion collaboration from Baltimore to Kabul.
