A susu (also called a rotating savings group) is a simple, community based way to save money with others.

Here’s how it works:
A group of people agrees to contribute a fixed amount regularly (weekly, biweekly, etc.).

Each period, the total collected money goes to one member.

The payout rotates until everyone has received the lump sum once.

Example:
Let’s say 10 people each put in $100 every week:
Every week, one person gets $1,000.
Week 1 → Person A gets $1,000
Week 2 → Person B gets $1,000 and so on until all 10 people get a turn.

Why people use susu:

Helps you save discipline (you’re committed to paying in)
Gives you a lump sum for big needs (rent, business, travel, etc.)
Often used in tight knit communities (friends, family, coworkers)

Important things to know:
It’s based on trust there’s usually no legal contract
If someone stops paying after receiving their turn, others can lose money
Some groups set rules like late fees or removal for missed payments.
