Our Story Founded in 2006 and ever-evolving through life’s many chapters, Definition Studio was created by Hatice C. Saglik while she was an international student at the University of Maryland. After spending a year working for a jewelry designer, Hati decided to launch her own studio, sourcing natural stones, beads, and silver directly from Istanbul, the city where she grew up. While studying I
nternational Business, she used the opportunity to turn theory into practice by building and growing her own brand from the ground up. After graduating from college and becoming a mother, Hati transformed her seasonal business into a more nomadic yet community-centered concept in 2017. She began collaborating with local makers, designers, and independent shop owners, showcasing her original jewelry collections throughout the Washington Metropolitan Area, including Maryland and Virginia. Her collections are inspired by cultural narratives, natural materials, and everyday self-expression, with themes and titles such as Little Black Jewelry, I Don’t Need Luck Said No One Ever, Colors in Nature, and Baby, You Are Golden. The collections range from minimalist everyday jewelry to bold statement pieces. Hati sees jewelry as both an artistic expression and a meaningful way to personalize individual style. Currently, most of the production happens in Istanbul while Hati is designing, welding, beading, wiring utilizing natural stones, beads, crystals, gold chains and components, offering custom-fit permanent or clasped pieces that are measured and made in less than 15 minutes in Georgetown, DC.
