I had a problem. I love Shotokan, and I wear lots of t-shirts. After searching and searching I was unable to find any meaningful Shotokan (or just plain meaningful karate shirts) that really pulled together its essence. The loud and in your face graphics that screamed “The Karate Kid” seemed to go against everything that authentic Shotokan instills in its serious students. Though, I do admit my bo
ys and I watch the original "The Karate Kid" movie. Shotokan Shirt Designs
Most Shotokan t-shirts, in general, are boring t-shirts that showcase Shotokan about as well as a limp rag. This is my attempt to bring together not just karate, but the Japanese aesthetic that is so distinct. My design goals are to have an element of the martial arts spirit, yet subtle in their delivery. I’d like to think that people who don't know anything about shotokan would like their design, and those people like my Shotokan teacher, and even someone like Dave Lowry could see the story behind the images. And that they would wear them too. Shotokan Shirts Designer
My name is Travis Schefcik, and I'm a solopreneur. I began training Shotokan Karate in 1993 under Ric Hoffpauir in a small Louisiana town called Crowley. Hard training was instilled early on from my teacher, and it remains today. Training Shotokan has taught me more about myself than any single thing I've been fortunate to take part in. Though, I've been able to train other arts like Japanese Jujitsu, Brazilian JiuJitsu, and Thai Boxing, it's been Shotokan that has been the foundation to which I always return. Those early days of rigorous training when it seemed too hard, too difficult, and made me wonder if it was all worth the effort has paid exponential dividends in all areas of my life. Have a question or comment, drop me a line here. Any feedback is appreciated, both good and bad. I hope you enjoy my designs and that you'll share my Shotokan Karate shirt designs with the rest of the world.
