Reflecting back on the first annual “Epic Backyard BBQ,”
I have to say I’m incredibly humbled and grateful for everyone who came out.🙏🏼

Everyone has a million things going on in their lives, so the fact that so many people took the time and made the effort to be there genuinely meant a lot to me.

And the amount of black belts in attendance was absolutely staggering. 😂
Pretty sure we had the safest house on the block that afternoon. 😎🥋

Great food. Great friends. Great view.
Honestly, couldn’t have asked for a better day.

And a huge thank you to my amazing parents for opening up their home and hosting what was easily the most EPIC Backyard BBQ of the year!

Already looking forward to the next one. 🙏🏼❤️

🎬 EPIC ROLL IS HITTING THE BIG SCREEN.

Pretty damn cool to finally share this one.

Epic Roll had the opportunity to create the custom fight gear and coaching apparel for the upcoming indie film “The Last Round.”

Seeing gear we designed and produced show up on screen is a new one for us—but definitely something we’re proud of. Thank you to Brian Butler-Au for the connection!🙏🏼

What started with making jiu jitsu gear for myself, then custom gear for jiu-jitsu academies and fighters is beginning to open doors into film and entertainment as well.

But the mission hasn’t changed.

We’re still focused on helping academies build their brand through custom gear—and now, every once in a while, we might get to outfit a movie set too. 🎥🥋

All I can say is… big things are coming for Epic Roll. 😎

This is the year everything changed. Not overnight, but through a lot of hard work, setbacks, lessons, and the right people showing up at the right time.

More than anything, I just feel grateful. 🙏🏼

One thing I’ve learned along the way is this:

If you know, you know. 😎

Like millions of people around the world, Nickelback has been my favorite band for years.

But what a lot of people don’t know is that Michael Kroeger is every bit as incredible off the stage as he is on it. If you’ve ever had the chance to meet him, you already know he’s one of the most genuine, humble, and down-to-earth people you’ll ever come across. He’s the kind of person who uses his success to lift others up, and I have nothing but respect for him.

I’m incredibly grateful to call this man a friend.

And here’s something else that’s pretty awesome…

Michael isn’t just a badass on the bass. 🎸 He’s a badass on the mats too. 🥋

He’s a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu brown belt under my Brazilian brother and Jiu-Jitsu legend, Riganmachado .

This is one of the many reasons I love Jiu-Jitsu so much. It brings together people from every walk of life—musicians, entrepreneurs, first responders, world champions, and everyday people—all chasing the same goal of becoming a little better than they were yesterday.

🔥 THE GREAT JIU JITSU DEBATE 🔥

Gi or NoGi?

There are only two kinds of people in this world:
People who love the Gi… and people who are wrong. 😏

Now before the NoGi crowd grabs their torches 🗽and 🍴pitchforks, hear me out…

After more than 20 years on the mats, competing at every belt level, spending 3 years fighting MMA, and actually competing MORE in NoGi than Gi, I feel qualified to have this conversation.

And my answer is simple:

🥋 I LOVE THE GI.

The grips.
The lapel chokes.
The strategy.
The tradition.
The endless technical possibilities.

All of it.

And yeah… I’m also pretty fond of wearing the black belt that took me 16 years to earn.

Don’t get me wrong—I completely understand the appeal of NoGi. It’s fast, explosive, athletic, and a ton of fun.

But as a mid-40s grappler held together by caffeine, ibuprofen, and bad decisions, the Gi will always be my go-to.

My theory?

The older and more experienced a grappler gets, the more likely they are to fall in love with the Gi.

Am I right… or am I way off base?😂
