If not us who?
As we celebrate the 64th independence of our nation we’re discussing the meaning of independence with Rueanna Haynes Rueanna Haynes 🌎 , a lawyer investing her skills to confront climate change in the caribbean and the globe.
Each of us has a role to play in shaping this twin island nation of ours.
Our call to action is the same as that in 1962:
”... the people of Trinidad and Tobago have full power to shape their own destiny. The task which faces us is great. The contribution of each one of us is needed; it will be a contribution to the common good. It deserves our best efforts to weld this society into a nation. If we succeed the glory will belong to each one of us.”
-The National Archives of Trinidad & Tobago.
On this Independence Day, we celebrate the creativity, resilience, diversity, and spirit that make Trinidad and Tobago uniquely ours.
And reflect on each of our roles to make this nation a place we are consistently proud to call home.
If not us...who?
Happy Independence,
Trinidad and Tobago! 🇹🇹
