Before rulers, tape measures, and fancy foot scanners... they measured shoes with barleycorns. 🌾

Yep, back in the 1300s, King Edward II of England declared that one barleycorn (a single grain of barley) would be the standard unit for measuring shoe sizes.

One barleycorn = about 1/3 of an inch.

So if you needed bigger shoes, they didn't ask your size... they just needed more barley. 😆

Imagine walking into a shoe store and hearing:

"Looks like you're about a 32-barleycorn foot."

Thankfully, we've upgraded a little since then. Today, we use technology like our Aetrex foot scanner to measure your feet. But the goal is still the same as it was 700 years ago:
