Vintage >>> modern: here’s why
Last year when I was in the thick of building out the vintage expansion, I started sourcing pieces all over the state of Maine that would help me bring my vision to life, and though it’s still a work in progress almost a year later, it continues to just keep getting better every day
One of the first pieces I found and HAD to have, was the blue mirrored top side table. And this past weekend, I found the perfect matching coffee table which now gets to experience new life inside the store to be admired for years to come. It’s easy to buy modern brand new matching pieces, too easy really. A few clicks of a button and it will all be delivered to your door. But vintage, man, it’s a journey. Two different pieces. Two complete strangers. Two different sides of the state, and now I get to house them both side by side. Vintage tells a story that modern pieces never could
The yellow couch and chair are the other staple piece in the new space, they were going to be TRASHED. We drove 1.5 hours to save them, and I couldn’t imagine it any other way. Buying vintage is sustainable. Not only are pieces built in such a superior manner, but they actually have character, stand out, make people stop and look
In a world where small retail businesses are a dying breed, where people don’t want to take time out of their busy lives to go to a basic store just because it’s a small business, when they can effortlessly order what they need online (probably more affordably), you’ve gotta give them a reason to WANT to make that trip. My store is an experience. It engages 4/5 of every basic humans senses (unless you guys are out here licking things, and then maybe 5/5??) but it’s so much more than just a store to stop and grab something, and I wouldn’t want it any other way. Using vintage pieces as often as I possibly can is a key factor in creating the space that so many of you have come to love, and I can’t wait to keep adding old dusty items that are still so full of life to the store that keeps me living ✨
