There’s a story behind the Christmas decorations we hang on the front of Red Wagon. Christmas Open House is Fri.-Sun., Nov. 6-8th, and we have begun decorating for the occasion.
The heavy, full-looking green garland with red bells that we hang in front of Red Wagon every year is pushing 50 years old. They were first bought and used in the corridors of Becker Village Mall the first Christmas they were open in 1980.
Then, in 1992, when my wife and I were preparing to decorate the Bed and Breakfast that we had opened earlier that Spring, we learned that the Mall was buying new decorations and wanted to sell the old ones. We bought them and began hanging them on the front of the house on Washington Avenue in Weldon. We continued to use them till we sold the Inn in 1999.
We kept the green garland and red bells. When we opened the vendor market that would become Red Wagon in 2017, we began to decorate the front of the store with it.
Every year, the old green garland and red bells shed many plastic needles, and the lights need constant replacement, but they make the store a standout among businesses in Downtown Weldon.
When we say we're a vintage market, we mean it from the Christmas Decorations out front to the unique finds throughout our Eclectic Market. Come, Shop and Find Great Treasures, and take a moment to remember the Mall and these Christmas Decorations.
