Non-Toxic Sensory Playdough — Silky Smooth, Commercial Grade
Food-grade ingredients · 8 portions · Lasts 3–6 months

INGREDIENTS
4 cups all-purpose flour (or 1:1 GF blend)
1 cup fine table salt (not sea salt)
4 tbsp cream of tartar ✨
3 tbsp cornstarch ✨
4 tbsp coconut oil, melted
2 tbsp food-grade vegetable glycerin ✨
3 cups boiling water
10–15 drops gel food coloring per batch
8–10 drops essential oil — optional (lavender, orange, or peppermint)

HOW TO MAKE IT
1️⃣ Whisk flour, salt, cream of tartar, and cornstarch together in a large pot
2️⃣ Stir in melted coconut oil and vegetable glycerin
3️⃣ Dissolve food coloring into boiling water, then pour into dry mix
4️⃣ Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until dough forms a ball (2–3 min)
5️⃣ Cool 2–3 minutes, then knead by hand OR use a stand mixer with the dough hook on low for 3–5 minutes

Sometimes therapy doesn’t look exactly like real life because we break skills down into smaller pieces first. An obstacle course may look like play, but we’re actually helping your child improve balance, coordination, attention, sequencing, and body awareness so everyday tasks become easier and safer

05/24/2026

Sometimes the smallest tasks require the biggest effort 💛

What looks like “just pouring pasta” is actually a full functional activity working on:
✔ bilateral coordination
✔ grasp and release
✔ motor planning
✔ visual attention
✔ grading force and control
✔ sustained focus
✔ functional hand skills

Adding the spelling component also challenges executive functioning, sequencing, and visual-motor integration in a hands-on, meaningful way.

This is why OT often looks like play… while targeting real-life functional skills at the same time ✨

05/23/2026

Today’s session focused on functional fine motor skills through hands-on play and problem-solving activities. 🔋✨

Students practiced:
• bilateral coordination
• hand strengthening
• precision grasp
• visual motor integration
• motor planning
• executive functioning
• graded force control

From unscrewing and replacing battery packs to completing a steady-hand tweezer challenge without buzzing, these activities target the small foundational skills needed for classroom tasks, self-care, tool use, and everyday independence. 🙌

Sometimes the smallest movements build the biggest functional gains.
