It’s time to make a (kind of sad kind of happy) announcement…

I’m closing my studio at the end of this year.

Having a brick-and-mortar location has served my business and my family so well the last two years. It’s been wonderful being able to separate home & work, to make connections in my community, to confidently grow my vision for my business and to have a place to escape and be creative and strategic. But, as my business needs and family needs change, I’m letting go of the space and letting God lead me forward from here.

Many of you know that my end goal is to outsource manufacturing of my cloth books, and I’m walking slowly down that path. There have been countless setbacks and a lot of closed doors in the last year, and as my husband and I have prayed for direction and made careful decisions it’s become clear that pulling waaaay back and putting my focus fully on the creative parts of the business is going to serve us all better in this season than trying to hustle to make rent every month.

This means that I won’t be manufacturing any more cloth books myself, I won’t be restocking any of the brands we partner with (for now) and I won’t be attending any holiday markets or hosting a big holiday sale. I WILL be clearing out my remaining inventory and selling (some) furniture and display pieces so keep your eye on my stories this month to get some great deals!

I’m leaning into this sweet sweet season with a baby and three-year-old at home. I’ll be working to build a strong foundation for my business from my favorite cozy chair by the fireplace instead of hustling from a drafty downtown building, because that’s where God has put me right now.

I couldn’t be more excited for this next season, and I can’t wait to share the future of Evensong… once I iron out all of the wrinkles.

Two years ago we were signing our studio leases, and now she’s making a big move downstairs! I’m so excited for my friend as she opens her downtown west bend storefront!

Stop by her grand opening tonight between 5 and 8pm! She’s got so many great deals and experiences ready for shoppers tonight and her shop is looking BEAUTIFUL. I’m beyond excited for my dear friend.

My studio is directly above her shop, and I’ll be open for shoppers too (my door will be propped and I’ll have a sign on the sidewalk to direct you!) My inventory is a bit low but I’ve still got plenty of gifts for little ones in your life!

It’s been over a year since I moved into my studio space.

This time last year I was spending chilly nights painting and building furniture and dreaming about getting everything business-related out of my house.

Here I am over a year in, and the difference this space has made for my business, my family, and my home/work life balance is immeasurable.

It’s also helping me make the next step for my business a big one. Dreams are becoming reality, and I couldn’t be more excited to bring you along for the journey.

I honestly can’t believe how much growth a year has brought. My girls look so little in these photos, and my studio looks so empty! God is so so good.

These words from Elizabeth Gilbert have been running on repeat in my brain since I came across them earlier today so I printed ‘em off and stuck ‘em on my studio wall.
•
As a small business owner every single decision comes with a twinge of doubt and a bit of fear. What if that market is a bust? What if I never sell through this new product? What if I can’t make back what I invested?

I’ve always felt like I need to get rid of the fear, to move forward with confidence ONLY. This little allegory is helping me to see that it’s OKAY if fear is a backseat driver on occasion. It’s OKAY if it tags along. It’s OKAY to spend some time thinking about the worst-case scenario. What’s not okay is letting my decision (or indecision), my actions (or inaction) be controlled by fear of the unknown or fear of failure.
•
There’s also the extra confidence I have from stepping out bravely & prayerfully with an all-powerful God as a member of my “team.” His love for me is the most powerful force against the what-ifs and worries.

I hope you’re seeking & finding peace & rest at the start of this Christmas season, my friends. Here’s a little update.

I’m still here, filling orders & workin’ on those last few custom photo books & praising Jesus every day because I hit my “maybe I can do it but it would be a stretch” sales goal for the year! 🎉 (I am completely floored by this. Thank you, thank you, for your support & love as I grow along with my business!)
•
I’m taking the month of December mostly off. No sewing, minimal shipping, slow as snail mail email responses. I’ll be taking time away from social media entirely. This is all so I can focus on my family during advent, so I can recharge and prepare for all that’s ahead for Evensong, and so I can clear my mind and my schedule enough to start makin’ some art! I also just really need an excuse to unplug. It feels like I have to follow through if I announce it, for some reason. 😉

I’m going to put Etsy on vacation mode. The offerings on my website will be scaled down quite a bit.
