While we have a long way to go in regards to Autism,
“In the United States, July 26 is recognized annually as National Disability Independence Day, commemorating the signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) into law in 1990.

The landmark legislation has served as a de facto bill of rights for Americans with disabilities by assuring their access to economic and civic opportunities. Its passage represented an unprecedented bipartisan effort to acknowledge the centuries of discrimination suffered by the disability community, and a fundamental change to how they live their lives.”

As parents of a child with Autism we would like to remind the world that we are still learning too. We do a lot of guessing, especially with a non-verbal child. We are trying our best to raise our children to be the most successful humans they can be. That means accommodating for their needs, advocating for them, being their teacher and making hard decisions. All while processing it all ourselves and learning along the way. No one chose to be in this club but we’re all better and more considerate humans for it.

I see you, I hear you and I understand.
