Waverly On Doheny

Waverly On Doheny WAVERLY ON DOHENY was founded by Jill Collins in 2014. She considers herself a purveyor of resurrected oddities. The beauty is in the authenticity of a piece.

The patina and the rust are what makes it unique. Everything is original but has been cleaned and sealed to preserve its integrity. I consider what I do upcycling, taking a previously used item and reusing it in a new creative way to make it more appealing in today's culture. Basically I am reimagining the past to decorate your future. I scour the world sourcing unique items that have visual appea

l and individuality and even a sense of humor about them. They have to make me smile and give me that feeling that I know I have found something special. Things become new again through adaptive reuse. The items range from vintage car doors turned into room dividers to antique pocket watches on heavy chains simply worn as an accessory in a steampunk kind of way.

This week has been a bit of a blur and I forgot to post about the 50th Anniversary of the gala event held at the Royal Albert Hall last Monday evening attended by King Charles and Queen Camilla. What a night it was!!!
Awards were given out to young people whom the Trust has helped realize their potential. Such inspiring stories!!! and presented the first award of the evening kicking off an incredible night. The stories of these young people brought both tears and laughter and much admiration. There were many great performances by and of course and closing out the evening plus so many more all orchestrated by .holland.official and his big band and presented by . King Charles gave a heartfelt address to the audience from the stage with Queen Camilla by his side. The audience gave a rousing ‘Hip Hip Hurray’ three times and a standing ovation!!! As an American I couldn’t help but be overwhelmed by all the tradition from the national anthem being played announcing their arrival until they exited the stage to arousing cheers from the audience with one guest shouting out “We love you Charles”. For that one night I felt very proud to stand among people who cared and respected their King and Queen!!!

Yesterday was a truly memorable afternoon spent at Buckingham Palace to celebrate The King’s Trust 50th Anniversary Party!!! Despite the down pours of torrential rain which did not seem to dampen the festivities and I were very proud and honored to be there and have a few private moments with King Charles who seemed genuinely pleased to see Phil who was the very first ambassador 40 years ago and a trustee even before that! We ran into and .lancaster among other old (in the nicest sense of the word) friends. It was not really the done thing to take photos once King Charles arrived in the Royal Tea Tent so unfortunately nothing to share.

In other news, Phil and I are working together on an auction to benefit in November in London with so please keep checking their website for more info. as it will be constantly updated. We are donating hundreds of items from our personal archives with 100% of the proceeds benefiting as well as asking others to donate very special personal items. Phil has also designed a tshirt which will be sold with all the proceeds going to . If you do not know the amazing work does to help young people please take a minute or two to look it up!

Soak Up Some Sunshine!
What a fun vintage sign advertising a holiday to Maui, Hawaii!!! I bought it today from a woman whose aunt had owned it for years. It measures 18” x 30”. Has some weight to it as it is on planks of wood as pictured. Ideal for a beach house or just anywhere you want to brighten up a room. I love the colors! The letters and overall feel is very 1960-1970’s.

Have you booked your summer vacation yet? It will be here before you know it!!!

They don’t make them like this anymore! This Valentine was posted on Jan. 22, 1909 from Scranton, Pennsylvania to a Mr. Edwin Roosa in Hallstead, PA. The sender’s name is difficult to decipher. Whoever she was she must have been eager to make sure it arrived on the day as it was mailed well in advance but given that it was 117 years ago it may have been delivered by pony express!

Happy Valentine’s Day!!! 💝

Shown here is a vintage Miracle Vac Company hair dryer featuring a chrome body and a wooden handle. It is a mid-century design piece probably circa 1950’s or 1960’s. The dryer originally offered both hot and cold settings. Such a cool looking utilitarian object that didn’t need to be kept hidden away. Simple functionality but all that was needed. I wish everyday objects still had this simplicity and sense of style! Anyone else feel this way?

Great gift for a hairdresser by the way…

This just in… an adorable cast iron still bank depicting Dolly Di**le aka Dolly Dimple created by the illustrator Grace G. Drayton (1877-1936). Drayton was best known for designing the iconic Campbell’s Soup Kids in the early 1900’s which were featured in ads depicting rosy-cheeked, big-eyed children. Dolly Di**le originated as a popular paper doll series in magazines like Pictorial Review starting around 1913.

This still bank was manufactured by the Hubley Manufacturing Company of Lancaster, Pennsylvania, most likely in the 1920’s-1930’s. Hubley produced doorstops and still banks using the same molds but this bank version has a coin slot in her right arm and a removable screw in the back in order to retrieve coins. She is 7.5 inches tall and weighs about 4.5 pounds.

This Dolly Dimple bank has quite a bit of character as she is around 100 years old. I used to only buy things that were perfect but now I see the quirkiness in how items age.

She is a delightful piece of early American toy and advertising history!

Just sold to Ryan who is playing a sold out show at the Troubadour tonight. His band is called Dexter and the Moonrocks . Home of Western Space Grunge! Super lovely guy. I loved that little ray gun and what really sold me on it was the description on the back.
It was a perfect fit for him and I can see why. Definitely on theme!!!

What a great evening the other night listening to narrate his slide show of amazing photographs. He told such brilliant stories!!!
He is truly the eyes of a generation told through his camera lens. introduced him with a heartwarming story of when they first met. The surprise after the presentation was a musical set from followed by the band America with Henry robustly joining in! He photographed seven of their album covers!!! He seemed to really enjoy the evening and so did the sold out crowd!!!

I absolutely love hearing the stories from the people who were there!!! Such a treat!!!

I met Henry in the 1970’s with Micky Dolenz at a charity tennis tournament. That story is for another time. Ha! Ha! 🤣
