E. Haze Gentry Cane to Ouachita Parish from Jackson Parish in 1930.. He was born in 1915 and died in 1997. In a few years after arriving in Ouachita Parish he would open Gentry's Dixie Dandy which he operated for more than than 50 years. Along with his brothers they would start Gentry's Rodeo Arena in the 1940s where they bought the first Professional Rodeo to West Monroe. The rodeo was the love of his life. Mr. Gentry was a cattleman, hog farmer, owned the Western Store, West Monroe Bus Lines, West Monroe Cab, Twin City Poultry, and Country Kitchen Restaurant. He would also co-found J and H Boots and Jeans.
