When I was a little girl my grandmother, Ivie Cain, taught me to sew. I made my first quilt when I was 5 years old. It was all sewn by hand. My grandma and I used to make the coolest clothes for my Barbie. When I was 13, I had Home Ec class and loved making things. I would go to grandma's house and use her machine. For my 14th birthday my dad, Tom Lewis, bought me the best sewing machine that Sing
er made at the time. I used that machine for over 30 years and still have that machine! It quit keeping time and I had to buy another one. I have always sewn for my family and friends. They could show me a picture of something and I would make it for them. When we were younger I would make dresses for me and my four sisters. In 2010 I started working at Oliverios's Bridal and Prom Boutique and learned to do alterations on formal wear and wedding attire. A few years later I started working at the Morgantown Buckle as a seamstress. Then past I took on the job of seamstress at the Bridgeport Buckle. Between jeans, prom dresses, bridesmaid dresses and wedding gowns I have a lot of experience in sewing. In 2016, I left my family at Oliverios's Bridal to start my own alterations business. For now I am still working at both Buckles and spending the rest of my time doing alterations in my home. My family and friends have been pushing me for years to start my own alterations business and are very supportive of my career change. And I know my grandmother is smiling in heaven because something she taught me over 50 years ago is still my passion!
