You found the dress. Now comes the part where we make it actually fit your body. Before your first fitting, here are six essential questions to ask your seamstress:
"When should we start?" Most fittings happen 2 to 3 months out, with 2 to 3 appointments total. But peak wedding season fills up fast. Reach out early to get on the calendar, even if your dress hasn't arrived yet.
"What should I wear underneath?" Your foundation changes everything. Ask what shoes, bra, or shapewear you need to bring to your first appointment, because we fit the dress to what’s underneath it.
"What are my bustle options?" If your gown has a train and you plan on hitting the dance floor, you need a bustle. Different fabrics and dress styles call for different bustle types, so ask which style works best for your specific gown.
"Can I get a cost estimate?" Alteration costs depend on dress construction and the exact work needed. Ask for a rough estimate upfront or set up a consultation so your seamstress can see the dress in person.
"Is steaming included?" Your dress should be freshly steamed when you pick it up, but ask about timing. If you are worried about wrinkles during travel, see if you can schedule a final touch-up steam closer to the big day.
"How do I store this until (and after) the wedding?" Ask how to hang or store your gown so it stays pristine before you walk down the aisle, plus the best way to clean and preserve it long-term after the party wraps up.
