Hi everyone!!!! Our book being peer reviewed and gaining ground in writing. We are talking to a publisher about getting printed! We are still in need of pictures of ladies obviously pregnant. We are looking for pre 1980’s. So if you know of any family or friends with good pregnancy pictures or portraits please let me know. We will forever be grateful and you will get the pictures published in a book and be acknowledged. Please this is a key part of our research. Showing the everyday women in their child bearing years of experience. Also if you have any anecdotes that you remember from yours, mother, grand mother, etc… Please feel free to share those to. They might be a good reference point to.
My great grand mother had a normal pregnancy from all accounts. She had already had a hand full of sons so she was well experienced. When she went into the hospital to have her son though the doctor wasn’t there yet. So the nurses who were not allowed to deliver a baby knocked her out and tied her legs together. When she woke up her baby had been born with cerebral palsy and was deaf. He had already been in the birth canal so had lost oxygen which caused his disability for life. This story of her mother in law affected my grand mother so much. When she went in to have my mother. The doctor wasn’t there yet so nurses tried to put my grand mother asleep. She knocked the sleeping medication out of the nurses hands. She said at age 90 she could still hear the cone hitting and bouncing off the floor. She felt that she had saved my mom from becoming like her brother in law.
Now these stories have to do with delivery. We are more interested in the actual pregnancy experience of women. My grand mother said that a bandage should be put over the belly button so it isn’t seen through the shirt. Showing your bellybutton was immodest to her. Like this finding out the does and don’t of each era’s fashion is what we are looking for. So family journal entries and guidances like this would be fun to reference.
