In 2021, my husband and I first walked through the doors of 5 N. Conococheague St. and decided then and there that it would be home to Sprout. We, and our incredible contractor Rick Everett, took on the painstaking, exciting, and extensive process of restoring the commercial space to her former glory, committed to keeping the historical integrity and beauty of the original space. During this time, I continued to teach, but began selling plants on a tiny stand inside Cannon Coffee, thanks to the kindness and support of my good friends Chris and Lindsay Reese. During this time, I worked hard to build my brand, and am forever indebted to the inimitable Colin Tierney for his logo design, his branding, and his friendship. On May 4, 2023, Sprout opened its doors for the first time. The response was overwhelming and so incredibly humbling. I restocked twice in those first few days, overjoyed to see so many of you make your way in and see what we had created.
Today, almost 2.5 years since we opened, I closed the doors of Sprout for the last time, and once again was humbled and overjoyed to see so many of you make your way in to the shop to say goodbye. We know you know how hard we tried, but in the end, it simply wasnāt enough.
What started as a dream to curate an immersive and beautiful shopping experience, grew
into something far bigger than plants on shelves. It became a place filled with laughter, friendships, stories, and SO much love. It became a community. YOU became my community.
From my first tiny propagations at Cannon Coffee to the very last plant on the shop floor, youāve shown up for us. You shopped, shared, celebrated, and reminded us what community really means. For that, I am endlessly grateful.
To the incredible gals who worked for me and helped me be as present with my family as I could be, I am forever grateful for you and for your friendship.
To the many consignment vendors and pop-ups throughout the years, thank you for allowing Sprout to help spread your beauty and artistry.
To my husband, my children, and my mom ā I couldnāt have done any of this without you and I love you endlessly.
Though Sproutās chapter is ending, the roots weāve planted together will always remaināwoven into this town, these walls, and our hearts. So, when I say āthank you,ā I mean it. Thank you for every hello, every visit, and every bit of encouragement along the way. Thank you for the laughs and the stories and the love. I will carry your kindness with me always.
With love (and a little mist of happy tears),
š Katie & the Sprout Family
PS: There are still a few more pieces of Sprout to be had, so Iāll be posting about those in the coming days. Keep an eye on our stories!
