Warning: this will be a long post, so I will get straight to the point. As we celebrate our 8th anniversary in business, I have decided to put the shop up for sale.
This decision was not made lightly. Last week, I celebrated over 18 months of sobriety. However, with that milestone came additional health issues. Last year, I was diagnosed with Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease, a neurological disorder that causes foot deformities. Luckily, it is just affecting my left foot for now, though it could eventually impact my right.
This past December, I developed a callus that became severely infected due to doing too much work at the shop. Since then, my role has been dramatically reduced and I haven't been able to work much, which is why I had to cut back the store hours. Ultimately, if I had continued on that path, I could have lost my foot. Managing this disability has also caused my mental health to spiral up and down, and I refuse to jeopardize the last 18 months of sobriety I worked so hard for.
Because of this, the business is officially for sale to the right buyer. I would love for someone to come in and continue what I started, whether they keep the current name or bring in a new one. I have a great structure in place, along with hundreds of digital assets that would make it easy for anyone to take over operations. My dream of adding a café was also close to completion; with the right buyer, someone could easily pick up right where I left off.
As of right now, I would prefer to sell the business as a whole (including our Michigan-themed and Hornet gifts), but I am entirely willing to modify the terms for the right person to make room for their specific vision.
So, what happens if the business doesn’t sell? Realistically, I could transition to an online-only storefront and outsource production. However, I would truly love to see this remain a physical storefront. A lot of blood, sweat, and tears went into building this unique shop.
What are our plans until it sells? It is business as usual! That said, we will be running some really good sales to help reduce our current inventory.
I have hired a business broker to help manage the sale. If you or someone you know is interested in the shop, please send me a direct message, email me at [email protected], or text me at 810-986-6168 for more information.
