What “what to expect when expecting” never told you:
The tiny hands and feet only stay tiny for moments…
You don’t have to enjoy every moment, sometimes things suck and you’re soooo tired, but soak all the moments in…
Days seem long, but the years fly by…
Jot things down, silly memories, funny things they do or say, when recording them always make sure you let it hit 30 seconds before stopping…
Let them play in the rain, they may come in drenched and muddy and gross but they’ll hold those memories in…
See relatives and friends as much as possible, let them learn and hear stories of older days…
Remember they love with their whole heart, but they also hurt with their whole heart…
Once you have a 2nd, 3rd etc, the time somehow goes faster, they seem older faster…
Take every moment they want a hug, or cuddle or 1 more story, they won’t be asking for those things forever…
Make them try the food but don’t make them eat what they don’t like, it’s not going to add anything to your life, how many things as an adult do you eat that you don’t like???
Parents make mistakes too, apologize when you do… it’s a teachable moment…
No parent is perfect, and no 2 parents do things the same, don’t be so hard on yourself, if you’re not questioning yourself are you even a real parent? Lol
They say smell helps make a memory stick, breathe in that sweet new baby smell, the toddler “stinky” feet, cherish these smells…
When your house is finally clean and organized and stays that way, it means your baby birds are beginning to fly, so don’t be hard on yourself when you choose playtime over dishes…
Ask for help when you need it….
Life is short and time flies by, don’t take yourself too seriously, just because you’re older doesn’t mean you had to grow up…
Take all the pictures… ALL of them…
When that tiny hand reaches for you in the middle of the night, take it in..
People are always shocked when I say if I could keep them little longer I would. The moments are amazing even though they are exhausting…
