One by one, a steady stream of dismayed longtime customers filed into Schultz & Odhner’s Dry Cleaners this past week to pay their last respects and deliver best wishes to the owners and staff of the North Shore’s first dry cleaners and one of Wilmette’s oldest businesses.

The cleaners, located in the same building at 1152 Central Ave. since 1901, will be closing its doors for good on Friday, Dec. 4, another casualty of the COVID-19 pandemic.

To our valued customers, neighbors and friends: It has been our pleasure serving you in this Wilmette community for the last 120 years.

We have decided to retire. We will not be accepting any more cleaning from this point on. Though we will be sad to close,
we will be taking many wonderful memories from our years of working with you. We will be closing our doors December 4.

Just a reminder that our annual coat drive to help those less fortunate is wrapping up soon, on November 15. Please bring usable coats and jackets, hats, mittens, scarves, sweaters and any other usable cold weather clothing to us. We will clean and distribute them to local charities through St. James the Less, including the Howard Area Community Center, The Grove, and other local nursing homes.

Please bring coats and jackets, hats, mittens, scarves, sweaters and any other usable cold weather clothing to us.
