Thank you, thank you, thank you!! To everyone who shopped small yesterday and everyday it means the most. We wouldn’t be able to do this if it wasn’t for all of you! The boss(also store re-arranger + greeter) and his mama 🤍

These two are my reason. My reason for never, ever giving up even when I didnt think I could keep going.

I’m just a 24 year old, college dropout that decided to take a chance. Decided to spread her wings. Decided to move away because I thought it would be good for me, to experience something on my own.

Thank you to all the people that took a chance on me, that shopped with me, that made me smile every damn time you came in.

But honestly these two deserve the most. They took the biggest chance. They started this dream of mine. Never said no when I needed help, with remodel, with money, with absolutely anything. This entire space was bare when we came in, and my dad never, ever hesitated to drive 4 hours to put in long days to help me with absolutely every install in the place. The lights, the floor, the doors, painting the walls, hanging my fixtures, building my dressing room, building my counter, EVERYTHING. Leaving a place where I watched my favorite man put so much hard work into hurts. The love he put into it for me is crazy, but that’s the kind of Dad He is. And I know he’d do it a millions time over for me if I asked! Hope he is ready for my next projects. I promise this next project will be the last big one!😉 If he reads this he will say - ya right Tiff.. “last big project” haha, okay Dad for the store anyway. But being able to work on projects with my dad is so special to me. Building with him has taught me so much, taught me how to get my hands dirty and ALWAYS try something at least once.

I hope the next person can appreciate this spot as much as I did. And know how much love went into making it.

Dreams don’t work unless you do, and these two show me everyday how that works. The man on my left works on his hands and knees every single day so people can have a great place to come home to and raise a family and that absolutely amazes me. His work shows how much he loves what he does. And this lady works so hard everyday at her job and still comes home and helps run their business and take care of the household “chores” Their hard work has always given me courage to never give up.

THANK YOU BROOKINGS ❤️ Next project coming soon.. 😉

Wow, the people I’ve met and the things I’ve learn on this journey have been absolutely incredible. The last three years in Brookings have been a true blessing for me.

But here is where I am saying my goodbye. Trying not to cry as I write this post but I’m finding that incredibly difficult. My time here has taught me so much about love, patience and hard work. But most of all how much my family means to me, how hard for me it’s been being away from them (especially from my new nephew, who absolutely changed my entire world). When I moved to Brookings i imaged I would be able to go home more often then I have been able to, and from working every weekend, I just wasn’t able to. When I began looking for new places to rent, as my lease comes to an end, and couldn’t come up with a place that was sustainable and reliable for me I knew my heart was telling me it was time to go back home. And even though that thought was hard for me for quite some time as I would have to leave this store I built, going home to my family has never been a question and was quite easily the easiest decision.

When Barbara bush died and her quote “At the end of your life, you will never regret not having passed one more test, not winning one more verdict, or not closing one more deal. You will regret time not spent with a husband, a friend, a child, or a parent” popped up it hit me like a ton of bricks. And it took me moving away from home to realize how much I love it there, how much I love my family and I dont want to ever regret not being able to spend the remaining years of my life, however much time I have, with my family. And so with that I want to say THANK YOU. Thank you to the people I’ve met, the people that have supported me from day one, and the people that believed in me. This journey hasn’t been easy, but it’s been fun. And that’s what it’s about. I do plan to continue my online store, but still waiting for what the rest of my future holds. But I’m going to leave that up to the only man that knows that answer.

And even though I dont have to say this, I want to. This is not my case, but it happens and I want people to be aware of it. SHOP LOCAL. Spend your money where your home and heart is. Just because something is “cheaper” somewhere else doesn’t mean everything. When you see your roads degrading, think about the sale tax money you just gave to another town. When you see an empty store front, think about all the time, hard work, and love somebody put into it just to be shut down Because dare I say it, Amazon. People, just like me, work so damn hard every day to bring money (sales tax revenue, donations to schools/organizations) product,
Etc to town. Ask Amazon to sponsor your charity, school, whatever event, let me know what they say, if they even respond. 😉 I know everybody shops online, big shops and small shops. I do too. But If it’s available in town, i will buy it there. Give your small shop a shot. Appreciate and respect the small shops in your town, Bc I guarantee you in most small towns, that’s all they are made of and when they are gone that’s when people want them back.
But to the person reading this that thought, I should open my Own shop, but those fears rise in the back of your head. JUST GO FOR IT. Is it hard? Yes. Can it be extremely frustrating? Uh, ya. But is it so much fun and mostly rewarding if you work hard? 1000% yes. But it takes hard work and lots of dedication! But at the end when you see what you’ve created it’s all worth it. That sounds like Im talking about a baby, but honestly this is my baby.

I will be open Tuesday October 8 - Saturday October 12 (last day). Everything will be 40% off.
PSA: Sip and Shop this Thursday!!

If you have store credit or a gift card you’ll need to use it up.

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you to all for your amazing support. @ Finicky + OAK

** This is long post, but please read **

I really want to put a new perspective on shopping small, especially this holiday season.

People often ask me “Do you do this all by yourself + how many hours do you work?”

My response - “Yes, all me... and roughly 47 hours a week at the store + all my hours at home. But thats not the point. Point is I love my job, so those hours mean very little to me.”

My “job” is a beautiful thing to me. It’s also a lot of work and at times a lot of frustrating work. But it’s worth every minute. I do what I do because I love it, and I love seeing people’s faces when they purchase something they love from me.

To me it’s not about the blood, sweat, and tears (ok, lots of those) I’ve put into my store, it’s the joy I get from all of it. The incredible people I’ve met and to see the store I’ve built from the ground up come to life.

So please know when you shop small this holiday season and every day you bring an immense amount of joy to me. A smile to my face. Plus you are helping a city improve, because when you shop local 2% of your sales tax stays local.

So, THANK YOU. I get to do what I love every. single. day. because of you wonderful people and I am extremely grateful for that.

Shop local + shop downtown Brookings this holiday season! We have so many great stores to shop from!
